I think it's great that you are trying to live healthier. Don't let anyone discourage you. There's a ton of "****," to put in simply, done to our food before it even gets to consumers. It's not really about the length of your life, it's about the quality of life you get to live. The old addage "you are what you eat" applies here. I just recently started living healthier myself because my Dr. looked at me and told me it wasn't a matter of IF I would end up in a wheelchair, it would be a matter of WHEN . . . if I didn't take injections of Interferons that destroy my immune system (I have MS). So . . . I said ok and left and since July 2006 I have had a food allergy blood test (eliminating 17 foods that cause my immune system to flare up, including cane sugar), I have been eating mainly an organic diet, exercise, take herbs and whole food supplements, I DON'T USE MY MICROWAVE except ocassionally to reheat a cup of organic coffee (no more than 30 secs.) and I try to never use it really. I cook in cast iron, not teflon. I steam veggies, not boil them. I don't eat dairy products anymore. I only eat range free poultry. I've had one steak recently from a cow fed an all vegetarian diet, no hormone implant, no antibiotics etc. (it was the best steak I've ever had actually). Regular beef cows could be fed their dead brother who was too diseased for us to consume. Yuck!!! I can truly say . . . I'm feeling much better. I used to be sick all the time, nearing pnemonia once earlier this year, I was turning into a walking stick (at 5'7" only 105 lbs.), I had headaches all the time. I had bad insomnia, bladder problems from the MS and dizziness, chronic fatigue - you name it I felt horrible most of the time (not to mention all the numbness in various parts of my body, including my feet and hands being the worst). Anway . . . I had some halloween candy (nerds and laffy taffy) the other night. I had such a terrible migraine within 6 hours that lasted about 12 hours. I was dizzy and just in general felt sick. It was the sugar! This isn't the first time I've had sugar and had this problem, it's one of my weaknesses. But my point is, I shouldn't ever ever eat it!!! What I'm getting at here is food really affects your body, your health and your general well being. I'm living proof. I've gotten sick 2 times since July. Once was a nasty bug that caused me to cough like a barking seal and the other was strep throat. I got rid of both of them within a few days and with no antibiotics. For me to get rid of anything in a few days is a miracle (even with antibiotics), let alone without!!! I have changed my immune system. It takes time, the body has to be rid of toxins first too, with proper cleansing. Good health can be achieved. Not everyone needs to go to every extreme that I do, but everyone should realize the benefits that could be achieved. Look up sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate on word net at Princeton's website. You won't want to put your regular toothpaste into your mouth anymore or wash your hair with your regular shampoo. Our world is filled with toxins and it's no wonder so many of us of so full of cancer and strange diseases like MS. I don't consider myself a fanatic either. I do what I can afford and I live my life the best that I can. Thanks to the way I take care of myself now though I live a better life. I'm not some little old lady either . . . I'm 31.
This site has a picture of its triangle form. Also buckwheat is used in Japan to make a type of noodle. It is also an upholstry filler instead of a feather pillow. Great for allergies.
www.whfoods.com
wow, i wonder if i can get it in the states ?
what do you do with the triangle, is there a web site i can find
a picture of it on ? l.e.
whole it is in triangle shape very unique.
yeah, i have to say, this buckwheat stuff is awesome ! thanks
have you heard or searched "hunza bread", it's very cool ?!
i get the buckwheat, (it's ground and in 2 lb bags), is there any other form ?
l.e.
Buckwheat is fantastic!!! It is not wheat and is related to sorrel. It is gluten free and full of vitamins. Lowers cholestral and contains systematic enzyme rutin. Great for heart, diabetes and coeliacs. Great as a rice substitute whole and ground great for yummy pancakes and porridge. Sometimes called Kasher, grits etc.
i don't know about that guy's skid mark issue, it's just funny i guess. most of the responses i'v gotten where not suggestions but comments about ME the searcher.(i'm most likely funny too) it seems that people are responding to the fact that AM looking into stuff, instead of WHAT i'm searching for. i stumbled onto this site to put a question or two out there in order to see if i was alone. so far i think i might be, but i hope that changes. and if i make a few people laugh, thats o.k. too, i like humor in any form, and i have friends and family that would join them. thats changing though, i have gotten
through to some of them already. thanks for your interest !

i wondered if doctors were good elsewhere? i'm happy that they are ! by the way HUNZA is made of buckwheat.
i like the other's comments, it's why i stuck with this site,
and i AM on a quest and need the feedback. l.e.
point well taken, but i think it's fun to search this stuff,
better than looking at porn all day (i think) and i have gotten
some great ideas and new things to eat and drink that i really
enjoy. i wear seatbelts, i get outside and "do" stuff, and i now
eat alot better(i think), and i have very little stress (i'm single right now) so there we go ! i'm still going to look
for info that i KNOW for a fact that the drug makers and fast food sellers and the government does NOT want me to know. l.e.
Leif I haven't tried hunza bread as I have stepped out of the bread world. I eat a lot of brown rice, lentils, chick peas, buckwheat, cous cous nuts and seeds. Am almost a bird. But something I do go for is fermented foods. Kefir. It betters digestion and gives you good flora better than yoghurt. I detox with a avuyeran liver tea and drink a cup of dandelion tea each day to cleanse and rejuvenate. I am lucky I am in Europe and the doctors here use mostly complimentary medicine so I am learning alot also about mushrooms and weeds as we pick them from the forests. I suppose I am in someways becoming a natural grazer. munch! munch! I eat a lot of greens and take vitamins separately and not together and watch out for fillers in them. I do research with my sister who is a homepathe. I am happy and what it comes down to is we are reflections of our environment and are what we eat. Take care and keep up your good work!!! Information is education. Don't worry about the peanut gallery they're great girls with different roles that's all. They help a lot of people and thats why we are all on this site. Cheers!
I always look for your posts. It's good to be as healthy as you can, but jeez Leif! We all gotta go sometime. The most major impact people can make on their longevity and health is to:
Not smoke
Follow a healthy diet (lower fat, higher fiber)
Exercise regularly
Wear seat belts
Minimize stress
Obviously you can do other things that MAY make a small to almost negligble difference in your lifespan, but these are the biggies that EVERYONE can do to live longer and more happily.
If you get a kick out of looking at off the wall ideas, go for it. They may not help, but if it makes you feel better it's worth it, I guess.
oh leif we are just jokin! its fun to see what your new quest is!
hey, keep the faith ! it's hard to make these healthy changes,
thats why most people do NOT want to do it. i was that way too
for a long time, now i feel foolish for making fun of people
who tried to better their health. i love this health search,
it's been very interesting and scary when you see how bad things
have gotten with all the health issues we have today.
did you ever here of HUNZA BREAD ? it was going to be my next
question, but i might not bother unless i want to here from the
peanut gallery. haha l.e.
hey, i'v used sea salt for years. i had a friend that was a head chef and she got me into sea salt long before i knew how good it was. it's better for you than regular salt ! l.e.
you guys crack me up! Ha! Ha! Hee! Hee! hey but I am entitled to my thoughts and no I am not into my microwave not even a couple of times a month. Thanks though for your opinion. Poor girl toilet cleaner it would have been better to use vinegar or bi-carb soda. Too bad that we live in a such a consumer marketed world. I am happy Leif is telling me about natural things. Leif check out simplesavings.com.au they have a great site of ways to save money, the environment and your health. It has a few tips but not all is green and wholesome. Take care! and girls keep up your sense of humour and when the sky falls in call Leif.
folks FOLKS, calm yourselves, it's just a mild (MILD) interest
cause life IS full of dangers (i hike in the mountains with
bears and mountain lions everywhere) and if i CAN do my little bit to be healthy i will ! besides, it's fun to find new ways
to be healthy and it makes me happy to make little (sometimes big) changes for the better. ok the
microwave thing is tough to give up, but the other day i made
a really healthy meal and saved some for the next day. when i went to the "nuker" to heat it up i thought about what i read
and i found myself unable to RUIN the good meal by putting it
in that machine ! call me crazy, but i did not want to ruin the
healthy value of the food. i love your humor but this is NOT
my life, i'm not spending that much time on this issue, it's just the only thing WE talk about ! haha and yes, i use
aluminum free baking powder and all that stuff, the magnet thing
i'm not really sure of, thanks for the idea ! l.e.
rusalka that is great you feel better. i bet we all would if we ate better. but i doubt it has anything to do with all the questions or posts he has posted in the past 30 days. i doubt using a microwave a couple times a month would hurt anything.
Do you think it will be sea salt next week, or magnets?
Well I have a microwave but don't use it for that reason, it is bad for you. It is not just the microwave but the microwave dishes and no I have a life. After having immune problems for years I have eliminated a lot of things as meds, microwaves, plastic and eat as much whole food as possible. It has changed my life. My health is better and I have more energy and look younger. So take the time to cook and love the food your cooking as it will always taste better. Its your choice your life.
No, Leif. Most people have microwaves and use them almost every day.
Back in olden times before the invention of microwaves, people still died of cancer, had malnutrition, had high blood pressure, and myriads of other problems.
I'm assuming Leif, that you don't drive or ride in cars, since car accidents are one of the most frequent causes of early death known to humankind.
leif dont take this wrong but you NEED to get out more. lol. your so obsessive i think the internet is making you crazy with all your investigating. why not grow a garden, eat fresh untouched veg. and grow your own fruit. drink water in whatever way you find it to taste best and live your life! sorry i had to tell you. go out and date or play golf and enjoy your life to the fullest without worrying about mirowaves or any other waves. im just kidding i just had to say it! lol
