low fetal heart beat at 6 w 4 days

I am pregnant and had an ultrasound last week at 6w4d and it was very low, 61.  I am 37 and have a healthy little girl who is 28 months.  It was the perfect pregnancy.  We got pregnant this past summer and had a miscarrage.  The doctor estimated the miscarrage at 8 weeks however I started spotting when I thought I was 12 weeks.  Do not know why my body held on to it.  I had a D & C. The tissue was tested and it came back with a chromosomal problem, downs syndrome.
After the ultrasound last week, the doctor was not optimistic at all and pretty much told me to expect the worst.  I have been researching on line and have come across a couple of favorable posts but mostly finding upsetting info.  My follow up ultrasound is in 2 days and it is driving me crazy just waiting.  Does anyone have a similar situation or any words of comfort or support.  I have been praying.  Is it my age now that I am having these troubles? I thought for sure after a miscarriage, the odds were in my favor of a viable pregnancy.  Esp that I had a previously healthy pregnancy and daughter.
Thank you for reading this.

I am so sorry for your previous loss. I've read quite a bit about pregnancy and I have read that heart rate is not necessarily a bad sign. It can go up with the age of the baby.  Have you had your hcg levels checked? Were they increasing?
As difficult as it is, try not to worry. It's easy for me to say now but I just had a m/c at 16w and I worried all the time. It really doesn't help. Try and stay positive and in a few days you'll have more answers.
You'll be in my prayers.

I hate to hear that you are going through this. I'm 30 & have two healthy kids & had my 1st MC on labor day weekend last year. I immediately got pregnant again (not trying) & it was tubal. Before I mc'd they could never find any heartbeats so I don't have much advise. Mine was mainly a numbers game with my HCG levels & what they could/couldn't see in the ultrasounds. The dr did tell me that being I had a MC I was at no greater risk of having them again. Its the bodies way of 'natural selection' so to speak. Harsh I know, but its about the only answer I can find. I hope & pray that the heart gets stronger in the next couple of days for you. Like Steph said, I too have a friend who had to see a 'high risk' dr due to her age, she was 35. Don't give up hope on your little one. I wish you the best of luck. Try to stay as calm & relaxed over the next 2 days. I know its alot easier to say than do, but stress isn't good for you or the baby. *HUGS*

I'm sorry you are going through this. I don't have any advice to give you about the heartrate. I can tell you that my bestfriend is 38 and just had a perfectly healthy baby girl. They made her go to a high risk dr. because of her age, but nothing went wrong. I'm sorry for your past loss. I will say a prayer for you and your little peanut. *hugs*
