Getting pregnant after miscarraige....whats safe?

Hello,

I had natural m/c @ 8 wks on Jan. 27th 2011 and on last internal ultrasound my Ob. said i did not have to wait & to start trying again straight away. My GP  advised to wait 3 mths.  What is the best advice to follow?
I also have a low iron level at the moment , which im am taking a supplement for, should i wait to have iron levels checked before trying again?
Any advice appreciated, :)

Hi all,
Thank you so much for all your advice. Just waiting for iron results, hopefully they will be improved. I do feel ready from an emotional point of view to try again & my Dr. has said that as long as i feel ready myself , sometimes its better to just try again as sometimes setting a target of say 3 mths adds more stress to the situation.

Thank you all for sharing your own experiences, it has really helped.
Im sorry for your losses also.

Thanks Again :)

Every Dr. gives slightly different advice.  The info you seem to get the most often is one normal cycle if it was a 1st trimester m/c with no complications.  Even after a D&C (first trimester) i was only told to wait one cycle.  I have m/c several times now.  After my 5th, (natural and at about 6 weeks or so) I conceived almost right away.  No cycle at all in between...in fact I was completely shocked to find I was pregnant again.  He is now 13 months old...so the only sucessful pregnancy I have had was immediately following a m/c, no waiting, no period in between at all.

I agree....it's more about how ready you feel emotionally.  They used to believe that it was important to let your lining rebuild, etc. etc., but most experts discount that now.

Good luck to you and I am so sorry for your loss.

Hi, I too had a natural m/c and after an ultrasound etc was given the all clear to start TTC again straight away.  My OB/GYN said as long as I feel I am emotionally ready again, then it was perfectly fine, so we did!  You have the green light from your specialist, so if you feel ready emotionally to start trying again, then you should. Best of luck :)

Hi,
I had a naturally mc in Nov my HCG went back to normal middle of Jan, I was 5wk6d when i mc. One GP said 3 cycles the other said start straight away and put me on Clomid i asked him why the other doc asked me to wait and he said for emotional healing but i felt ready to try again so he said there was no medical reason why i shouldnt. I also have low iron levels for 3years due to an ectopic that ruptured and iv been preggers twice since and i take ferrous sulphate daily.
Hope this helps and good luck :)))

Go with your dr advice just know that you won't get pregnant again until your body is ready,so chances are 3 months. As for the iron everyone knows that levels are important to maintain a healthy pregnancy so I would reccomend getting them checked before trying again.
