How long after a miscarriage should i wait to take a HPT?

I had a miscarriage June 15th, 2009 at 5 weeks and i have yet to start my period. My last real period was May 8th, 2009. My question is how long should i wait to take a HPT? its been 5 weeks since my miscarriage. should i wait or take one this week and then one next week?

Thanks. My doctor told me that i should have my period by now. I go to the doctor July 31st. I think if i dont start by then im gonna mention it to her. Thanks for everything. She also told me that also 2 weeks after the miscarriage is when id be fertile. So we will see.

I'm sorry for your loss. It is hard to say some women have their cycles affected and that can include ovulation. It can take up to 3 or more to regulate. I think at this point the most accurate way would be to have your blood drawn a few times. My dr told me that for the first 2 wks after a m/c you are extremely fertile however that may not be the case for everyone. He also told me the first day your m/c starts is considered the first day of your cycle. I'm just not sure how accurate a hpt would be at this point since you haven't had your first period since your m/c. I hope you get some answers soon. Good luck and  I wish you the best.
