Miscarriage and Shingles?

Pum
Hi there,

Unfortunately I am having a miscarriage (6 weeks). I forgot to mention to the doctor that I had a few spots in exactly the same place as the pain is (my lower back). Today the rash is worse and now there is some on my tummy. I phoned the clinic and the nurse said it sounded like shingles. Has anyone else had a rash with a miscarriage? I guess it could be co-incidence or one has caused the other or something. At least that explains the weird pain which I thought was a very odd pain for a miscarriage.

I'm not sure if we will try again as I'm 41 and it seems all very hard to think about going through this all again. I'm sure I will feel differently once this is all over.

Take care everyone.

i had a miscarriage recently on 8thjuly and noticed some rashes on my back last tuesday. I consult with a doctor friend and she said they might be shingles since i had burning and pain on that spot only... but i dont have any oozing blisters yet she prescribed me an antibiotic Valtrex. I was just wondering if it gets worse or painful later on should I take the antibiotic to prevent worse pain?

i had a small spot of shingles 1 month before I got pregnant and 20 weeks later I miscarried first miscarriage ever and I have 2 boys already I am sure shingles caused my pregnancy to end.

Quite some time has passed since you have posted this, but it was helpful to me. I googled "shingles and miscarriages" and found this forum. I miscarried last Wednesday and by Saturday (while still in the process of miscarrying) I noticed a rash starting on my back. By Monday I knew what it was and was diagnosed with shingles. Very painful at this point. I do not know if incubating shingles caused the miscarriage but now in retrospect I am understanding all of my symptoms a lot more. Exactly; when it rains it pours!

Confirmed as shingles. Great. When it rains it pours. Ah well the treatment is the same for both, pain killers and rest.

Thank-you for your kind words. I have an appointment at 2.45pm (it's 12.30 here) but I'm fairly sure it is shingles. The rash is spreading and it's sore and explains why I've had so much pain. I'm sure miscarriage is very painful too for some but that side of things is minor compared to my back pain. Maybe one caused the other as it's a huge co-incidence. I'll probably never know.

I will let you know what he says. The first doctor I showed (3 days ago) said they were flea bites and they were all in a row so a reasonable guess at that stage.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have never had a rash with any of my m/cs but my oldest and now this pg I have a bright red rashy type thing on my chest it is hot to the touch and looks like a sunburn my dr said it's my body's reaction to the hormones and the amount of blood in my body. What has your dr said? Was the shingles a contributing factor to the m/c? Sometimes we get the answers and sometimes we don't. I know with all of my m/cs I had an undiagnosed urinary tract infection but have yet to have it confirmed as the cause. Let me know what happens and I'm here if you need to talk. I'm really sorry for your loss I hope you feel better soon.....
