Refferal after ectopic and 3 early misscarriages

Hello.
Over the last three year Ive had one ectopic where I have had my fallopian tube removed and three early misscarriages.(6-8weeks).
I have now after the last one two weeks ago been referred to a fertility specialist.

During the last misscarriage I was rushed into hospital as when my Gp referred me to hospital my Hcg levels where low, over the course of two days then increased slowly, then fluctuated until it was confirmed I had miscarried. It was frustrating and upsetting.  During this time I had numerous blood tests taken and numerous swab tests.  Can anyone clarify what all the swab testing is for?
It all seemed to happen so quick and i was quite dazed by situation.  I just want to have a s much information I can before my referral.

Secondly has anyone else experienced a situation and been diagnosed resulting in a Pregnancy.

Thirdly what can I expect from this refferal? Has anyone been through this.

I hope you can help

I had 2 m/cs.  The only explanation I got was low progesterone and was told that meant I was ovulating but not that well.  I was able to have 2 healthy sons with supplementation.  We later wanted another one and were unable to conceive for over a year.  Was referred to an RE because they do more advanced testing and have more knowledge of different medications to use.  They found this time I had high fsh, low amh, low progesterone, endometriosis, too thick uterine lining, cysts on ovaries, and a polyp in my uterus. (hubby was fine it was me with all the issues!) But with all that said all those problems were fixable with surgery and meds and I am now 28 weeks with a little girl.  I hope they can give you some help as well.  Good luck to you and sorry for ur losses.

Hello,
I am very sorry for your losses.... I too have had three early miscarriages and one ectopic pregnancy... they also removed my right fallopian tube as it was causing more problems as it had scarring from a previous ovarian cyst. I understanding how frustrating and difficult this time can be.

In my situations I don't think I ever had any swabs done during my miscarriages... so I can't say what they would have swabbed you for... but I imagine adgal was right in saying they were probably just testing for some kind of infection. But it definitely is your right to know and you can always ask your doctor.

I was told by my family doctor, my fertility doctor and the doctors from the ER that the majority of early pregnancy are due to some kind of Chromosomal Abnormality and that nothing ever is really identified as a cause.

In my case I have been diagnosed with PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome a long time ago...  and although I have had one successful pregnancy 6 years ago... PCOS can increases the rate of miscarriages... so I have been seeing a fertility Dr. for some time... and have been on clomid to help with ovulation... which I also just recently found out can increase the risk of chromosonal abnormalities.... as I just recently had my third miscarriage last week and the Dr. in the ER told me that any time you have an induced ovulation you increase the chances of having an chromosomal abnormality. So now I don't know if I should keep trying with the fertility meds or not....

From my fertility Dr. referral I too have had lots of blood work done, and had a procedure to clean out my tubes and uterus, they also sent my husband for some testing as well.... all of which have not really found a concrete reason why I keep miscarrying in the early stages. I have an appointment with my fertility doctor at the end of Dec to talk about our next steps... and perhaps I would like to have my hormonal levels check and maybe some genetic testing.

I think some of us just have a lot more difficulties then others... Take care and wishing you all the best.

HI there.  First let me say how sorry I am for your losses.  I too have experienced multiple miscarriages and I know how heartbreaking it can be.

I have never had swab testing during a miscarriage and so cannot comment on that.  My best guess would be they were looking for some sort of infection?  While 2/3's of first trimester miscarriages are caused by a chromosonal abnormality, some can be caused by enviroment issues such as an infection.  You should ask though as it is your body and your right to know.

I am not clear on what you are asking next.  Do you mean a diagnoses as to a specific reason for a loss, then a successful pregnancy?  If that is what you mean, the answer is yes.  In my case no real reason has ever been found, but I know of many women who have been diagnosed with issues such as clotting disorders that have been successfully treated and healthy babies born.

As for what to expect from the referral...mainly testing.  They will usually go over lifestyle with you first.  Do you smoke, medications you may be on, recreational drugs, etc.  This is not meant of be offensive or to judge you, but sometimes the answer is as simple as making a lifestyle change.

In my case they did several tests where they looked at my uterus.  Ultrasound, and two other tests I cannot recall the name of, but one involved injecting dye into the uterus and having a good look, the other involved a camera for the same purpose.

I also had a tonne of bloodwork.  They also did bloodwork on my husband and looked for possible genetic incompatability.

In my case no reason was ever really found.  However, I did have a happy ending. After 5 losses I gave birth in January to a perfect healthy little boy.  I just had another miscarriage as we try for a second child.  Some of us just have really bad luck.

Good luck and don't forget to let us know how your doing.
