D&C - What to expect?

So I just wanted to ask the ladies who, like me, have been unfortunate enough to suffer and miscarriage and had a D&C what can I actually expect from the experience?

I really didn't want to have to go down this route but my body just doesn't seem to want to get rid of this poor baby so I'm going to have to.

I know the doctor briefly explains what's going to happen but they don't really go into detail and help with what I'll feel afterwards - physically and mentally. Any advice and experience anyone could give me would be so greatly appreciate. And please, feel free to be as frank and honest as possible - I need that right now.

I had the D&C and was put to sleep, and it's nothing to worry about at all. I was so scared when I read all the stories online and I was really scared of being put to sleep and I don't do pain, so I was really happy with how easy it was and I had no pain.

It's the emotional side you need to deal with, it's awful to lose a baby, no matter how far along you was.

Please do not worry, there is nothing to worry about in regards to the D&C.

Your period should come back in the next 4-6 week, if it takes more than 2 month go and see your doctor.  I also had a missed miscarriage.

When you do finally get your period they much come ealier or later, am every 33 days, but since my miscarriage, one cycle was 24 days and my next one came after 21 days, so there all over the place, it takes about 3-4 months to settle down, if ur period don't come back to the normal pattern then speak to a doctor after 3-4 month, from the time u start ur period. Any questions u have, just ask me.

Sorry for your loss and wish you all the luck and happiness.

Rachel

I have had two. One for miscarriage. They both went by smoothly with little to no pain. The first was for irregular periods and I had no pain at all. I didn't even need the first tylenol. The second one, I woke up with a little pain but that was from the pitocin they gave me to shrink my uterus back. After it wore off, I didn't have any pain. I was tired afterward. I slept for a day or two. You will spot for a few days. Make sure you have some pads. It takes 4-6 weeks to get.tour period back most of the time. I had the second d&c Feb 6. I just started yesterday. The first period after my d&cs, I have had bad cramps. Tylenol is a plus.

Oh I forgot to add I bought a heating pad for the cramps and it helped alot. If you don't have one try looking into getting one. I was thankful for mine.

I have had 3 d&c. All were missed miscarriage...physically at the hospital I didn't feel anything...they gave me pain meds. I am groggy coming home and emotionally I felt empty hurt angry....just a mix of emotions. I cramped bad with all three menstrual type cramps but they gave me meds for the pain. The cramps were gone a little over a week. My last one emotionly and physically  hurt me more cause it was a second trimester. The cramps were bad anId I leaked milk for two days. I hope all goes well with your surgery! All mine went fine no problems.
