I am so sorry for your loss.  I know I miscarried at 14 weeks, my son passed at 11 weeks and I got my first af at 37 days post miscarriage which is about 5 and a half weeks.  I fell pregnant after the first af and I am now 14 weeks pregnant - very scared but I will get there.  This time in April I had already lost my little man but I am hopeful now.  I think I bled heavy for one week, light for the next week and spotted during the third week so in total I bled and spotted for a total of 3 weeks.

I hope that helps

i had my miscarriage July 27 and didnt get AF til August 27. (just noticed the irony in time with Irish741 lol)  i was recommended by not only my OB clinic but also the hospital to not TTC until after my first normal cycle.  the main reasons given were higher risk of infection and next to impossible to tell conceived date.  how far along were you???  did you get all of your bloodwork done to confirm that you had a complete miscarriage???

So sorry for your loss. I know it is hard. I had a mc on June 31st and AF returned on July 31st. Before my mc I always had a 28-29 days cycle. I read that it could take anywhere from 4-6 weeks for AF to return. Was your cycle regualr before your pregnancy?  Did you get your final hcg numbers from your doc? If your levels are not down to zero or there abouts, meaning your mc has completed and all tissue has left your system it might be hard to tell when you take an hpt. If you have residual tissue from the mc that has not completely shed you might get a false positive. My hcg numbers were only at 70 at 3 weeks after my mc. If I was to take an htp at that point it would still be possitive. I think the best tests register hgc at 25. I would talk to your doc since you are 4 weeks out to see what your current hcg levels are. If they are higher than what you should be at this point you may be pregnant again. He/she may also want to monitor you levels at week later to see if they are increasing or declining.  Though ttcing immediately after can help us get through our miscarriages a bit easier and faster it can also pose a problem when determining how far along you may be when you ttc so soon. Not that ttcing soon is bad, I would have loved to but I had other things going on at the time and needed a break. We started back up after my first full cycle. I don't think I could have waited the recommended 3 months per my doc. That was just way too long for me. :) I would think since you are 4 weeks out, you could test now and then every week thereafter to see if you get a possitive. Best of luck to you!

There is no way to know when your period will start after a miscarriage. The doctors usually say 4-8 weeks but everyone is different.
As for testing, that would be hard to know too unless you suspect you know when you Od. You could take a test every week from now on I guess, just to see. It's just so hard to tell before you get your 1st AF. Good luck.
