They never consider bleeding during pregnancy normal, but it's common, and much of the time there is an explanation for it that does not involve miscarriage. Rule of thumb is if it's just light spotting (on and off) talk to your Dr. at your next appointment. If it is period like, contact or go see your Dr. If it is heavy (a pad an hour) seek emergency medical treatment. Also, if any bleeding is accompanied by cramping (stronger then period cramping) you should also contact your Dr.
As I said, about 50% of the time, women who bleed in first trimester go on to have healthy and normal pregnancies.
Should u b concerned about cervical bleeding at all?
thanks for your answers :)
Lots of us bleed during pregnancy. And yes, it does sound like old blood. However, do not be shocked if it does become red, this still does not mean a miscarriage.
Statistically, about 30% of women will bleed during first trimester (I did, and my son is now 21 months old). At least half of the time everything is fine. Although the presence of a heartbeat is not a guarantee all is well, it is a very good sign. Once a healthy heartbeat is detected, your rate of loss goes down dramatically.
Cervical bleeding can be caused from things like sex (it won't hurt the baby, but can irritate the cervix), a vaginal ultrasound or even a pap smear. Uterine bleeding can be caused from a small blood clot or hematomma that is just bleeding itself out.
It's all scary to see, but typically is not a big concern. It's good you got checked. Hearing what the Dr. said is good news.
this is old blood, you need to be worried if its bright red/pink and also if it has any clots and you have any cramps with it. There could be several reasons why, you have bleed, sometimes it isnt from your uterus it can be from your cervix as this gets swollen when pregnant and the veins are close to the surface. As long as it reamins brown, I would try not to let it worry you (hard I know), any sign of fresh blood, go and get yourself checked out
