could my mom have been mis diagnosed? need answer quick please

My mom was diagnosed bipolar 6 months ago and has went down hill since. Anyway 6 months ago she thought she was pre menopauseal and they came up she wasn't then she started seeing someone at pathways and they diagnosed her bipolar where they have her on 300 mg of seroquil and cylonipen and it has turned my mom in to another person. Then a wk ago she found out she is in full blown menopause and what I have read she could have been diagnosed. Doctors these days want to prescribe pills without ruling out other things first ugh. Is it true she could of been miss diagnosed?

Hey there,
I am not any state of menopause. But I do have a mother who was diagnosed as bi-polar, and has a chemical imbalance.
Sadly she was never a parent and left all her 5 kid by the time they hit 2 years of age. 5 kids by 3 different dads.. and one set of kids! Not the most responsible person!
I hear you talking about your mother, but I wonder about you! How old are you? How are you coping? Do yo need anything?
I have learned that my needs came last compared to my motherers. I can agree with you that Dr's will whip out their RX pad's prior to discussing all options. Most receive a commissions by  prescribing certain medications.
Be aware that your mother is going threw some changes and you are not at fault for this!

I am sorry to hear that your mother is not doing well. Mood changes associated with menopause and peri-menopause are an area of controversy - researchers have had trouble determining what it is that causes mood changes at this time, and what the best treatment might be. At this point, the knowledge that mood changes take place around menopause does not provide us with clear reasons to change diagnosis. In other words, if your first mood symptoms occur around the time of menopause the diagnosis and treatment is usually the same, except that some (but certainly not all) psychiatrists might be more likely to recommend using estrogen to see if it helps.... But that, also, is pretty controversial. Wish I had clearer answers for you.
