Eye question - Not Necessarily MS

Hi,

Question for the wise people here.

I have notice for the last few months a small blackish fuzzy spot in the centre of my vision on my right eye.  It is too small to affect my vision.  It is annoying but that's about all.

I mostly notice it when I'm doing close work on the computer or reading documents.  I first thought it was my contact lens.  Changed a few pairs.  It's not.  It doesn't seem to be changing.  It moves when my eye moves.  But seems more or less same relative location all the time.

Should this be mentioned to opthamologist? Could it just be age related. I read something about intervitreous bodies.

Oh what is the pain that people get with optic neuritis like. Is it like the eye itself.  Recently had a few times when get eyeball pain. Pain sensation is kind of like when you eat ice-cream that's too cold.  But it feels like the eyeball itself.  That sounds so weird!

Planning to go for checkup again sometime soonish (still getting flashing and very obvious difference in colour and night vision between eyes).... just wanted to wait till 6 months from the last visit so I don't look like too much of a hyperchondriac...

Hey Pat, Bob, Moki,

Thanks for your comments.  Ok! OK! I'm convinced AND I respect your opinions.   I'll go see someone next week.  There is an opthamology centre close by my office.

After weeks of feeling pretty good and mainly minor non-specific symptoms the specific burning sensations are back (feels hot and wet).  They are well defined and there is a lot of them.  I could almost trace around them with a pen.  Hoping this will be gone by tomorrow - will try to sleep early.  If not, guess Monday I should be making an appointment to go bother the neurologist again! Damn!  I don't want to be here.  Every time I feel good, and then if things come back it is so super depressing.... I just feel like crying!  Or maybe will look for a new neuro.....

It's already nearly 6 months since they did the last MRI, so maybe time for another one. As far as monitoring if anything is happening.

To top this all off, just last night my teammates have decided that we will be doing Iron Man again next year. I REALLY want to do it with them.   I am going to try getting into the training.  If I really find I can't keep up I'll just have to go along as support crew.  But I am not going to give in without a fight!

All  these things I am feeling are invisible to an outsider!  So as far as they can all see I am perfectly fine.  Now just have to convince my body of this.

Pray for me!!

Sally

I have been having some eye problems myself for quite awhile so I know what it is like.  Floaters may be harmless and just some of the vitreous gel that has clumped. But any sudden appearness of one should be checked to make sure that it is not something more serious. This is more important if you are experiencing eye pain as well. Please do make an appointment to get it checked out. Rather safe than sorry.

So I guess that makes 3 that think you should see the opthamologist. lol Is that telling you something. haha

If you haven't done it, you might want to Google "macular degeneration" to see if your symptoms sound similar to that. If so, an appointment with an ophthalmologist should rise to the top of your list of things to do. Best wishes.

I haven't had optic neuritis, so I can't give you any advise about your eye pain, but the black fuzzy spot sounds like a "floater".

I have them, but mine isn't related to MS.  Many non-MSers have them, as do many with MS.  There are various causes and I'm not sure if MS can increase the occurance of floaters.

Mine are small as well and I can only see them when looking at a light colored wall or at a computer screen. My mom has a larger floater that does cause a bit a havoc with her vision.

Your ophthalmologist will be able to see your floater on exam.  If you're having some pain currently, maybe you should make that appointment sooner rather than later.  :-)   I don't think your doc will think you're a hyperchondriac!!   :-)

Take care!  Pat :)
