With the RDW that normal, your iron stores - at least as far as they impact your blood count - look good. But, again, you can have cognitive dysfunction and not have anemia. The Ferritin, al least, would be a good assurance of this.
When you treat iron-deficiency the blood picture returns to normal at lower iron levels than the cognitive picture does.

OK, so my CBC shows MCH 31.4 H, MCHC 32.8 L, RDW 12.2, Platelets 444 H, Eosinophils 6.2 H. These are the only labs that are not normal. I have to see my PCP on Monday so will ask her about the Ferritin and TIBC and she what she says. Thanks again
I should have been more informative. Low iron stores, even with a pretty normal blood count can affect your cognition - especially memory and attention. Please have your doc check your iron studies (like TIBC and Ferritin) and see what your RDW is on your blood count.

Thanks for the congrats...I really wasn't too worried because I'm not one to sleep around but you never know...Just the thought of being tested for those things was a little nerve racking. Thanks for the clarification on the platelet count too. I was iron anemic years ago and the doctor really hasn't said too much about the platelet count but I did notice that when I saw the MS Specialist he made note of it. Thanks again!!!
Well, congratulations on not having any of those things, lol. It does feel good to have a clean bill of health there. I always love knowing that I don't have syphillis, lol.
A platelet count of 444,000 is not that weird. In fact, in my experience counts up to 450,000 were considered normal. Platelets are a marker for inflammation (called an "acute phase reactant") and can go up in a lot of circumstances. Peristant elevation in platelets can be seen in iron-deficiency anemia.
I hope this helps.

I know (first-hand) how much it ***** to be in limboland, but there are a lot of things out there that I'm grateful when they get ruled out. I'm glad all those labs came back negative for you!
But I also hope you get some helpful answers soon!
Its such a slow process to eliminate everything else in the diagnosis - hang in there. I hope you get a positive answer sooner rather than later!
