interferon with psoriasis

Hello!! I m from Greece, I m 23 years old and I really need your advice. I suffer from psoriasis 10 years and from multiple sclerosis 1 year. I had started to take interferon- b and I saw improvement to my MRI (I don t have any syptoms except my first one) but I stopped it before 6 months as one doctor here told me that it is forbitten to take interferon when suffering from psoriasis. Other doctors have told me that there is no relation between interferon and psoriasis.. Which is the truth?? Please answer me because now that I take no medicine I feel very insecure..thank you for your time...

Hi Gree,

Welcome to the forum.  I'm sorry I may not be able to give you a technical, but wanted to pass along my initial thoughts because of the urgency you are feeling.

Are you on any type of meds for your psoriasis? I ask this because the MS meds are considered immune modulators.  Dr. may have been taking this and the role of interferon in psoriasis.

I'm just not educated enough in the immune system to know which way to guide you but understand why you need to know.  The facts will dictate whether you treat your MS or not - and that's important.

Are you in a position to ask the Dr. the specifics? And, is this Dr. a rheumatologist or neurologist?

Thank you for joining us.

p.s. Welcome to you too Bliarg.

Hi,

There are some skin problems associated with Interferon-a, not sure about Interferon-b.  It can cause sore injection sites and yes, complicate psoriasis and eczema.  Not sure where you would look for more information on the level of psoriasis problems involved with interferon, or stats on how common the interaction is.  Someone else here might know?

Good luck.
