My Neuro visit today

I saw my MS neuro today for followup of the worsening myelopathy (disease in spinal cord) and increasing right hemiparesis (right-sided weakness) The trip is about 66 miles RT and I feel too lousy to be onthr forum tonight.

My MRI shows NO new or enhancing lesions, but a couple old lesions are a tiny bit larger.  The weakness is still increasing in my right arm (MY! that man does a thorough neuro exam EVERY visit) and, I'm losing sensation in my left arm - I had no idea.  My gait speed, however, is improved.

I do have classic Trigeminal Neuralgia and he is putting me on Tegretol (carbamazepine).  He wants to do another 3 days of steroids, becasue he still thinks I'm in an active relapse despite no enhancing lesions (he says they are just too small to see).  And he thinkks the 'roids and the tegretol will help my new and improved L'Hermitte's - which is far more frequent and ZAPS my whole left leg.

My depression is also out of control and he's upping my dose of AD.

But, unless I feel better I'll see you's guys on the flip side.

Quix

For me steroids are murder.

But, icecream and chocolate still work wonders.

I read somewhere that SSRIs are not the best for MS - That Effexor works well.  I used to take Effexor and it did work BUT if I missed a day or two I became a homicidal maniac (exageratting but not by much)

My last comment sounded kinda sterile once I read it after I posted it, but I didn't mean for it to be.  Instead of "asset" I meant to say friend.

Yes you definitely need the rest.  Boy you know I can relate to the depression.  I have been very resistant to medications as well.  I had thought that If it was related to the MS maybe an MS drug would work better (that's what I was hoping).

Have you tried that?  I wonder if there something more appropriate to treat MS related depression than typical ADs.  Maybe I'll do some research.

Your sense of humor is so inspiring in whatever shape it comes in.  You are in my prayers we need you - but we need you strong.  Take care of yourself.

I am sorry that you are feeling worse and that your depression is rearing up. I hope that your medicine makes you feel better soon. At least you can rest easy knowing that you perform a vitally important service to all of us here. I mean that...what you do is so important for all of our sakes, both mental and physical. Thanks and feel better!

Thank you so much, everybody.  It's such a comfort to have your all around.  The depression is old news.  Chronic for the last 20 years or so (family curse and a disastrous marriage).  I try to manage it with finding things to do each day that give so meaning and importance to my life and by exercizing what I have been told is a skewed and twisted sense of humor.

Sweet Quix,

Life ain't fair.  And none of us see how hard a time you're having from your wonderful supportive posts.  My heart goes out to you.  How hard it must be to keep on.

Am so glad you don't have a weenie roast doctor now, and really hope he can help you get all of this under control. The sooner the better.

Remember how much we care about you and are here for you, as much as you are for us.

Gentle hugs.  Praying for you!

Sally

May you have a peaceful slumber tonight and wake refreshed tomorrow.

Odd question popped in my mind . . . how did your young patients refer to you (Dr. Quix, Doc, . . .)?????

Hey, Your Royal Majesty~

I think your doc ranks among the top docs we could ever hope for.  And it seems like your PCP is starting to get the idea, too.  I'm losing battery power on both my laptop, AND my body, so I'm going to recharge and post later.

FEEL BETTER and get some rest, my dear friend,

I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. Wow it sure does sound though that your neuro is very thorough. I hope the meds helps to getting you feeling better soon.

I'm sorry your depression is out of control. I had no idea you were suffering so. Your posts have been just hilarious and gave no hint of other things going on. We are here for you if you need us Quix.

My shoulder is always ready and willing to be used in any occasion. Although a little bony, I do have a cyber pillow on hand just in case.

Get some rest dear Quix and know that my thoughts are with you.
Hugs
