Another outrage story from neurologist

Just had the lumbar puncture done today. No problem with that ,,,,but I have lots of problems and issues with my neurologist. I asked her if she would start me on IV steroids today to get symptoms under control and so I can get back on feet. Answer was NO!!!

No Dx
16 lesions in frontal lobe, periventricular, temporprietal lobe, and one in my brain stem
hyperreflexia
intention tremors
on and on and on with symptoms I am not going to bore you with.

I was told the reason why is because she wanted to make sure my white cell count in CSF was normal. Is this true and may be Quix you may know this.

She also said there is no time today to start the IV ...its too late in the day to get it going.

Now I have to struggle through another weekend. What gives with these doctors??

Dawn

Red,
You may be right on that last comment that it happens more to women than men.  I'm about twice my Neuro's size and 15 years older than him.  The only time he really got irritated with me was a traumatic LP when he couldn't the needle through my back.  He was be'atching and groaning and I suggested that his lack of practice wasn't the patient's fault and I'd be more than happy to switch sides of the table with him.  He started laughing so hard I thought he was going to have problem holding the spinal needle in place.  We all react to these situations differently.  Sure, it hurt, but I wasn't going to help the situation one way or the other.  I get to have another run at him when the MRI results come back.

I'm sorry Dawn,  I don't know why some doctors are like this.  They have no clue how this feels.  And unless you are bleeding to death or having a heart attack it can always wait.  I don't know why he couldn't order it  to be done maybe in an ER but I am not a doctor and don't know the protocol.

I do know how horrible it is to have pain and weakness etc and be brushed aside.

And unfortuneately, it happens much more to women than to men.

Hang in there!   Red

Not sure how things are done there.  My Dr. sent my ICD-9 code for Demyelinating Disease, Unspecified and a script to an "At Home IV Service" and the courier showed up with the supplies.  Nurse showed up the next AM and started the IV and told me how to do it and flush it wen it was done.  No harder for the Dr. than any other prescription.  They did the LP already.  They can count the WBC is the CSF from the LP.  I can;t see them being super high since you don't have the symptoms of an encephalitis. They should have the cell count pretty quick.  As I said in an earlier note :As long as you don't have some other infection."  Not sure why your neuro would think that you do?
