This is in reference to Melissa's post on IV steroid and how they are helping her.

Can I ask a question? I noticed at times that taking a larger dose of ibuprofen seemed to lessen some of my symptoms when I was sicker. I thought I might be imagining it though (I doubt myself a lot.) I took it steadily for awhile due to the pain behind my eye and vision issues and some of the pain I was having. It did seem to lesson my symptoms. Has anyone else noticed that?

I have yet to given steroids but I might ask my new Neuro to try it for my double vision. See if it might help. My vision is really bad today.

Thank you. I think I have psuedo excerbations around my cycle. I'm not sure but I see an increase in symptoms every month at this time. I won't take more than 600 mgs but  it may help keep my body temperature regulated or something...emphasis on something. lol ~

I talk to the Neuro about this at my next visit. I am not sure I'm ready for steroids. I'd rather save those emergencies. I think. :)

I agree with Alex. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and large doses under a doctor's supervision might prove helpful. Contact your doc and see how he feels about using it.

As anti-inflammatory it may cause an improvement in your symptoms (which is what IV steroids do) but like steroids it cannot stop the progression of the MS, just the symptoms.

I hope you find some relief soon. If your doc prescribes ibuprofen, let us know what kind of results you get.

Yes it can help to take larger doses of Ibuprofen at times but only with a Doctor's guidance. When I fell in a construction fall and broke a bunch of stuff they had me on large doses which caused me lots of other problems. That stuff can be hard on the liver, stomach, etc. especially mixed with certain other medications.

Steroids do nothing for the process of MS but they can temporarily relieve symptoms. It is probably a good idea to call your Neurologist and see if they will help. They might.

Some people find them great other people find the side effects rough. I myself have been lucky enough not to take them.
