As if MS weren't enough...

OK, so I'm recovering from my 3rd attack this year, and last Friday I started having R ankle and leg pain.  I figured I had CRPS from all the spasms in my legs.

But Nooooo - You ready for this?  Deep Venous Thrombosis!!  Sheesh, so now I'm on rat poison (Warfarin) for the next 6 months on top of everything else!

I really don't think this year can get much worse - thank goodness it's almost over!

You deserve a break already! Yikes, I am so glad you caught the DVT in time. That was lucky.

As far as the Coumadin, I am on it as well. A pain, literally. All the blood checking that goes with it, but it does save lives.

2009 sure has been a hardship for both of us. I do hope 2010 brings better things.

Thinking of you,

Michelle

Wow you really are going through the mill at the moment! I'm so sorry.

Lucky that you had a dx of  DVT so quickly, and they gave you warfarin.

Did your leg swell up at all??

Like Lulu said, take care on that bike:)

Happy Thanksgiving,

Hugs

Warfarin, aka coumadin, has some serious warning that come wtih it.

You need to tell your PCP absolutely everything that you take - prescription and OTC drugs and supplements.  The list of what you Can not  take is lengthy. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and Vitamin K.

Also be aware that there are some foods that interact adversely with warfarin too.  Spinach. broccoli, garlic and soy are on that list.

You are smart, so do the research on what works and doesn't work with this drug, and follow those precautions.

Basically, don't take anythiing until you know it is ok.

Now for the DVT, I am so glad you realized what you were dealing with and didn't let it go on for long.  DVT's can be deadly. you're fortunate to be on treatment to resolve the clot.

stay safe on that bike!

I figured it was possibly DVT by Sunday, and promised to look at my leg with my ultrasound probe on Monday at work.  I have the wrong transducer and software on my machine (mine's for hearts), but I had a look at it anyway and was kinda horrified at what I saw and went down the hall to ask our vascular tech to have a look with the correct transducer, and sure enough, it runs from the popliteal vein (behind the knee) all the way down the calf veins to the foot!  She was just flabbergasted, 'cause she knows I'm a hyperactive health freak!  My PCP says its my birth control pill, even though it's progestin-only.  Needless to say, I quit that!

With the Warfarin, I just need to be careful not to crash on my bike or anything else - I'll bleed like crazy!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts!

Oh, shoot!   I'm sorry, too.  I hope the Warfarin does the job without much in the way of side effects.

Sending healing vibes your way,

Kathy

I'm so sorry!  Sometimes life just isn't fair--it seems like one person should only be able to get so many diseases/problems.  I've heard DVT is very painful, not to mention *serious*!  I hope the healing goes quickly.
