Back from VA Neuro

First of Lulu...No Deer today..:( But at least I did see some turkeys...Haven't even been seeing them lately...Dave went up on Monday and saw 17 deer. Almost wish I had gone with him but with 2 trips up to Nashville just for my appointments I couldn't have taken that one also.

Saw a new Neuro today..She was quite young and pretty but seemed on the ball more than most of the Neuros I have seen there.

As expected most of the issues were deferred to either my PC or MS Neuro at Vanderbilt as they at lest know they are not MS literate.

She concluded that my ER trip was probably a bad MS hug and that it can make it difficult for me to tell if something is heart vs MS related. She did say that if something like that happened again I should call my MS neuro office and if he wanted to see me they would make sure that it happened. Deferred to MS Neuro to figure something out for that.

Talked to her about my pain issues and how increasing my Gabapentin has left me wetting my bed instead of waking up. Deferred to MS Neuro to come up with something else for pain.

She also deferred my having a sleep study to be set up by my PC.

After the physical exam things she wanted to have me get some PT. But decided against it as the last time I had PT due to overheating I was getting worse. It wasn't until on the way home that I thought about how I should have taken that opportunity to suggest she get me a cooling vest. :)

With the pain in my right  big toe and the new drop foot on left side now she has put in for me to get those Walkaide foot drop things for both feet. Not sure if the VA will go for that. If not at least different style AFOs.

I also stopped by the optical department as my eye doctor put in for me to get new FREE glasses. The VA is allowing me to get progressive lenses with transition type lenses.  I'm not sure why they are free now. But I won't complain as I am still paying for the last pair I got outside the VA.

I also had my lab work done for my PC appointment tomorrow.  Stay tuned for that one... :)

It sounds like the VA appointment was pretty good.  My father has seen VA dr's in addition to all civilian dr's for a kidney transplant/heart attacks/stroke and the VA has been so helpful.  He has a young woman Dr. who has been invaluable with her knowledge and ideas.  The offset of cost for certain things has helped also.  The only problem he has had is communication with the civilian world.  He says "it's common-they are military".  I hope you continue to feel better.  I want to know where the deer are in Kansas?  I usually have a backyard full but not so much this year.  It has been a mild winter here so maybe they are staying near the creek lines.  I love seeing them.  I bet I see them when my trees start budding way a head of time (65-70 degrees today-ug!) and then get froze back...LOL!  Have a great day!

I checked them out last summer. I don't qualify as I make too much money. That is why I am kicking myself in the you know what for not mentioning them today when I had a chance.

those young ones are the best - I am talking about neuros and not deer.  They have all the fresh ideas and I think are more agressive with treatment than the older neuros who are set in their ways.  Stick with the pretty one if you can when you go to the VA.

The cooling garments can be had the MS Foundation or MSAA - either one you can do tyhe app on the internet, I believe.  Move fast - they have deadlines for them.

I saw a deer the past two days  but it was in a ditch at the side of the road - finally called our road department and it was gone when I drove home.  We have so many deer but they usually get cleaned up if they have been hit.  This one was kind of hiding under some wild homeysuckle.
