Broken down record..............

Hi everyone,

I don't want to sound like a broken down record..........
But I have had ms symptons for years now, about 10 years now that I can recall.

Anyway, I had 2 mri's in 2007, repeat in 2008, negative L.P. in 2008, and a repeat mri on a 3T last week, of brain and spine and it was again all clear..........

Should I still be concerned about ms, or would I be in the very, very  unlikely bracket?????

What or who should I go see now?????????????

Hi Melissa,
Most neurologist's opinions are if you have had several MRI over a time frame and they are normal and you have had a normal LP it would be unlikely that you have MS.  You would think after ten years of symptoms that if it was MS that lesions would be showing by now considering MS is progressive.

Do you feel you are getting worse or staying the same?

Do you have clear defined attacks and then remissions?

They can't guarantee anything, nothing if life is certain apart from death!  I guess there can be exceptions to the rules.

I know a friend of mine's aunt who had her first MS attack and then her second one 20 years later, so it does happen but it is rare.

Do you get leg weakness, lower body symptoms at all?  My MRI was normal but my neuro is definate that I have had an attack of transverse myelitis. A single attack of TM in your spinal cord can give you symptoms for life, that will flare when you are tired, stressed, hot sick etc. but obviously because TM is usually once occuring there might not be the progression to show up on MRI and spinal cord is not as good to image, especially the thoracic. This is what he is telling me, he also told me that he thinks I have had second case of swelling of my cord etc. but not enough to scar on MRI.. This is what he says from examination and what I tell him. Apparently my neuro exam is very, very suggestive and strong evidence to TM. My vertigo, facial symptoms and eye stuff etc. is caused by migraine aura without the headache

Melissa?
Is your neuro exam normal?

Have you have nerve conduction studies done?  If you haven't it would be a good idea.

Also to have the VEP and SSEP tests done.

If you have visual problems see an ophalmologist sp?

Have you had a full blood work up and had all the mimics ruled out?

I agree with Lulu, ask your neuro what he thinks is causing your symptoms.

Keep us posted,
it is nice to have some answers for your problems. When do you go back?

Melissa,
have you had a conversation with your doctor about what else it could be if not MS?  It has to be frustrating to know you are ill and still not have answers 10 years later.

I would go back to the doctor and ask "now what?"

good luck,
Lulu
