Blurry vision in one eye

Hi All,

I continue to have periodic blurred vision in my right eye despite new glasses.  The blurriness is similar to what you would expect if you needed new glasses. Things are only slightly out of focus but enough to be aggravating and disruptive of my activities.  Of course, it's always worse when I have my "atypical migraine" which manifests as retro-orbital pain in my right eye and left arm tingling.

My neuro sent me to the neuro -ophthalmologist regarding this previously and the weenie neuro who had JUST finished his fellowship said he knew what all my problems were due to...migraines. Told me to stop Copaxone, etc. I didn't get a copy of his report, will do so Wed. at my next neuro appoitnment.

So...finally my question is: Does anyone else experience this blurred vision problem as part of their MS symptoms? When your vision is blurred is it accompanied by eye pain? I have no history of ON. Negative VEP. Maybe the eye pain IS migraine , separate from the MS.

Just wondering.

Thanks,
Ren

Yes, I am diagnosed RRMS 9/14/09. Thankfully I do not have eye pain, just the blurriness. And a super annoying eyelid twitch!

Thanks for the responses. At least I'm not alone in this. Are either of you dx?

I am going to ask my neuro one more time about this tomorrow. If he has anything insightful I will pass along that info. I wouldn't hold my breath though, since he already referred me out once for this.

The eye its self feels differant from the right more weaker and difficult moving.
I wonder is this part of MS?
Have asked Neuro but they dont seem to have an answer on this.

Hope you get some relief soon tarter

I had an eye exam last week because I have been experiencing blurriness in one eye. My doc assured me that my eyes changed only slightly from my last visit 2 years ago. I could swear that my vision has changed though. I'm near-sighted in one eye and far-sighted in the other.

Thanks for sharing. Your symptoms are similar to mine.

I also had an eye exam while I was experiencing blurriness and the only thing the ophthalmologist said was, well you just need bifocals because you're getting older. My vision had only changed minimally in a year. He said it may not even be worth the money for new glasses because of the minimal change.

At least I know I'm not alone. I hope you get a dx soon.

Hi Ren,

I may not be the right person to answer this, because I don't have a dx.  I present clinically to meet the McDonald criteria (so says neuro) but my MRI is clear...

Anyway, I also have intermittent blurriness.  When it started it was sometimes accompanied by pain, but not always.  Over a period of about 8-9 months it got worse and very gradually better.

I actually had an eye exam (with an optemetrist, for new glasses) during a blurry spell.  She said my rx was the same (using one of those machines that measure the curvature of your lens in your eye) but I said my vision was still not clear.  She didn't have an answer.

I've had so many unexplained sx I've never brought this one up to my neuro because it comes and goes and I'm sure they won't be able to tell me what it is.

Hi Mary,

I do remember reading that post. I have been diagnosed with MS but never anything wrong with my eyes even though they are  bothersome on a regular basis.

The strange thing is EVERY time I have an eye exam with my regular ophthalmologist and with the neuro-ophthalmologist and his resident, everyone keeps re-checking my left eye. I was going to ask the neuro -ophthalmologist but I was so flabbergasted by his "dx" my brain shut-off temporarily as I began having visions of a neuro weenie roast.

I was just wondering if anyone had experienced retro-orbital neuritis as Quix has mentioned and what  symptoms they had.

Your eye issues mirror mine with varying degrees of visual acuity. Interesting that you had a positive VEP and with your other symptoms you have yet to be dx. Your ophthalmologist was straight to the point.

I hope you get your firm dx soon. Thank you for your response!

Hi Ren.  I've had a lot of problems recently with blurred vision and ghosted images.  It seems worse when I'm tired.  I wrote about a recent ophthalmologist visit here.

I alternate between two different bifocal prescriptions, covering one eye, or old fashioned squinting depending on how my vision is on any given day.  Sometimes I can see better at a 2-3' distance through the reading lens (that's not right) and there have been days I've had to abandon any activity that requires using my eyes.

I don't have a lot of pain but there is some if I rub or press the eye.  The right eye burns lately.

My VEP in October was positive for ON in the right eye.  I do or do not have a MS diagnosis depending on the doctor of the day.
