Evasive Neuros ok but why ???

I am reading and agree with lots of comments re; Neurologists who are very reluctant to dx MS but cannot seem to get a grip of why.. Why would so many avoid dx ms ?? what is it to them or am i missing something here.

Surely there must be reasons behind their reluctance.

I had my 3rd MRI this week and it was only of the cervical area this time.

I go into hospital on 14th July for my Lumber Puncture, and then on 21st july for 3 days to have intravenous injections.

Got to do the bloody MRSA swabs ( twice) myself and take them into my GP.

My arm still extremely numb and tingling and its no better than when it began 6 months ago. my neck pain worse dizzy spells and headaches have now developed.

Oh and by the way im not BUYING the brain scan results are due to my smoking i will certainly make this clear to my neuro in 2 months time xx

good health 2 u all.

Hi Jan,  It's really a difficult place to be---in limbo land.  I am in the same situation and have test results that are attributed to odd things.

Alex is right about the need to be completely sure.  Neurologists live in a world all their own I think. They are dismissive and withholding at times.  My areas of hyperintensity they say are 'ischemic in nature'.

I wish I knew a better answer.  Quixote has a really good thread called about stupid things neurologists say.  I would read that if for no other reason than to know you are not alone.

Hang in there,  lois

It just takes time in many cases to be sure it is MS. There are over 800 Neurological disorders and over 30 mimics.

The medications are expensive and have not so fun side effects.

Then there is the fact once you are diagnosed it is hard to get medical, long term, or life insurance again.

Lastly they have to be sure so the insurance companies will pay for your treatment.

It is basically a diagnosis of excluding everything else.
