Closure

Dh and I discussed that we are not going to waste our time with the followup with the MS neuro.

Dh takes the day off to drive me to Yale, and I get lunch out of the deal. But what fun is lunch after spending time with someone who upsets me? Yesterday I was stewing at the restaurant, and no, I don't mean eating stew, lol.

First off, I will do the iron treatments.

She did suggest a few local things. I will get the bloodwork done locally, the t-spine done locally, and she suggested the name of a neuro, locally. I will just bring this data to the new neuro. Although she is not an MS specialist, I don't have any other options at the moment. I think this final gathering of data will fill in the gaps, and give me closure.

Sounds like a plan. :-)

Trust me, I want all of the MRI's. No gaps. I have leg problems, wouldn't that point to a need for a t-spine? I don't know at all. If nothing else, it will give a baseline in case I need it.

Oh yeah, the other tests I haven't had are the SSEP and the LP. Although at this moment I think the t-spine takes precedence. I was even googling if someone could have a clear brain and c-spine, but be dx'd with t-spine lesions.

The local neuro was recommended by the Yale neuro. I was hesitant, told dh what if birds of a feather flock together and all that. What if they're cut from the same cloth? (all sorts of cliches here...)

He said that was a wrong way to think, you can't judge people like that. Am I exactly like my friends? Am I exactly like anybody in my own family? No and no.

So, I should give Dr. M the benefit of the doubt and not prejudge her just because I didn't warm up to Dr. P.

And that's why it's good to bounce ideas off of someone.

Humbly,
Suzanne

Hey, I love the nick-name!  I had a cousin who I was very close too, who I called Suz.  Makes me feel good to use it and type it.

Well, very thorough reasoning you have here.  I just have to add my 2-cents worth.  My MD ordered my first brain MRI, said the same very words, "expects nothing" (said I had classic stress) and I was dx'd with MS months later.  So, I do think you ought to get the tests in the meantime.  Really I do.  If you have to wait on this Neuro, you might as well go in their armed w/reports.  What is missing, the new one will (hopefully) order.

Did she recommend this local one? Or you found on your own research?

Hang tough!

Yup, you got it: lady dr. available in May, others in same group available if I need to get there before May.

I'm just waiting to see what the pcp says. He's a good guy, can't do a Babinski very well*, chose to leave my socks on, but I'll keep him. Anybody who sits and actually converses with me and weighs the pros and cons is a good guy. He tries.

*makes him sound like a cliff diver, lol

I don't blame you for wanting to go this route, and I believe that I would definitely do the same!  I would NEVER go see that wanna be "mind reader" again.....(I'm still p.o'd!)

If I am reading your post right, you have a 'local' Neuro available to see in May?  And in the mean time, if you have problems you need addressed then others will help?  If that's the case, I believe that's a pretty good scenerio.....I would also get these tests done before you go so that he/she has them in hand by the time you go for your visit.....If that new doc needs more tests, you can cross that bridge when you get there....
Now, I'm hoping that "I" made sense.....lol

Hey, how'd you know my old nickname? I was once nominated for something and my dh kidded me that he was going to make signs that said "Choose the Suz!"

Anyway, the appt. for the Yale MS neuro (I always feel like I have to be specific about those details!) is for 4/22.

She indicated I should get everything done **locally**, then go to see her, she knows it will be normal, so then she will release me to a local neuro. I'd drive the hour to her if indeed I thought it would benefit me. But I don't think her attitude, or the extra cost, is worth it.

As I told someone else, I live near a casino, and since this MS neuro is into mind-reading, she ought to help me with those skills of hers!

As it is, I called the local neuro, I'd have to wait until May to see the lady neuro, Dr. M.  But if I was having problems, they have 3 other doctors who would see me sooner. I also thought maybe I should wait and see what the new local neuro wants to do; so, do I get the tests before I see him or after?

Bottom line: I typed up a quick update, dropped it and the hand-carried t-spine request to my pcp's office, and will let him decide if HE or the NEW LOCAL NEURO will request this MRI thing, along with the bloodwork for ferritin levels. Basically drop the Yalie out of the picture.

If you can follow this, I give you a lotta credit.

Suzanne
P.S. One of my sayings "Nod & Smile" might work well here.

Hey there!

When was it scheduled?  Think she's not going to provide anything additional? You might be right, but what the heck, just get the testing out of her and out of the way so you can bring the results to the new Dr.

Hang in there Suz, I know this is frustrating,
