Cold and tired!

Just wanted to know if anyone else has this. Like most folks here the heat has always been my enemy and causes my symptoms to flare in an instant. But in the last few years I have had sessions  when I am very tired and I just can't get warm.

These sessions were infrequent and I could guarantee it would last about 3 hours or so, where I would just lay down and rest with hot water bottles, hot drinks and wrapped in duvets - all to no avail but after about 3 hours of resting my body would suddenly swing the opposite way and I would be throwing off the duvets and sweating (which is 'normal' for me).

However, recently this has been much worse and so has the fatigue. I suddenly feel exhausted, all my MS symptoms flare and I just start shivering with cold. Not just hands and feet but all over my body feels cold to touch in spite of being wrapped up. Last night this went on for several hours, It's not a bug or infection since my temp is fine and I don't lose my appetite.

Does anyone else have anything similar happen? My MS nurse said sometime back I might be having thermostat problems but does anyone else have this?

Thanks all
Be as well as you can be

Pat

The body's thermostat is in the brain.  The hypothalamus has a lot to do with temperature regulation.  Not sure about MS, but other disease lesions in the area of the hypothalamus have been known cause temperature regulation issues.  Have you taken your temperature when this happens?  It is very important to know whether this is just "sensory" or if your body is actually changing its core temperature.

Pat,

I can't say that I have had this happen. I do have extra tightness when I get cold but nothing like you are describing. I have read that some people with MS can also have sensitivity to cold as well. I hope this is not the case for you cause nothing worse than having sensitivity to both cold and hot, when will you find relief.

I hope you find some answers to why this is happening. Your MS nurse was trying to be funny right? I think you would know if you were having thrermostat problems.

Take Care,
Paula
