Colonoscopy results....

Hi everyone, thanks to all of you who gave me advice on the PREP and how it might effect MS.

I am happy to say the PREP was not bad at all.... and caused no problems what so ever. The colonoscopy was a breeze and I of course slept through it all. :)

I got my results today from the doctor. I hope this will nudge someone who was stubborn and scared like me to get a colonoscopy!

I am almost 54 and colon cancer runs in my family (mother's side) (many relatives died from it) Any way, the doctor did remove a polyp. Thank God it was benign. BUT he said there are a few different kinds of polyps .... Some won't turn into cancer and some might or will turn into cancer.....

My polyp WOULD have turned cancerous if it was left to grow.

The doctor told me to call my brother and sister and tell them to have a colonoscopy asap. He also said my 3 children, when they turn 40 NOT 50 should have a colonoscopy.

So to all you out there over 50 who haven't had a colonoscopy yet.....please go have one done. Trust me it is NOT as bad as it sounds!! And it could save your life!

Laurie  :)

So glad this went well and the doctor is able to give this wise advice for your family.  Colon cancer is so treatable if found early. Keep after your family to stay healthy.

And thanks for the reminder that we may have MS but we also have to keep in mind other problems can be going on in our bodies and we have to be sart about our care.

So glad that it went well.  Mine did too, when I had mine done last year.  I had 4 polyps removed, and 2 from my upper gastro part, as my Dr. did both ends...LOL

I was lucky too that it was benign, but was dx'd with IBS .... which I already knew.

Hope you are doing well.

Take care,
Candy

The first one was for digestive problems.  The last 2 were looking for cancer.

My doctor said I have to have another colonoscopy in 2 1/2 years.

Wow, 3 colonoscopies already, and you are only 40!? Were they looking for cancer? Are you okay now?

No one likes colonoscopies, especially of course the prep, but they save lives every day.

I had my second one in '09, at which time 2 polyps were removed. One of them was the kind that can turn cancerous. Bottom (!) line, have to have another colonoscopy later this year. My brother has had the same experience. Colon cancer does not run in our family, or at least people have died of other things first, but I don't one to be the one who changes things. So I will do what is recommended and have the procedure more often.

If nothing bad turns up, the usual interval is 10 years. I hope members here will take this important health precaution, which is covered by insurance in the US. As Lu says, having MS doesn't keep us from getting other diseases.

Such good news that they took the polyp out.  Are you supposed to get one now every 6 months or so since you're at high risk for colon cancer?

I've had 3 colonoscopies and I'm only 40yrs old. I'd say don't be afraid of getting one.

Thank you for posting this. It does sound daunting but as you've demonstrated, there is a very good reason to do it. I'm glad they found the polyp before it could grow into the bad kind.

Hugs, Minnie :)

So glad your polyp was removed in time. Thank you for reminding everyone that colon is PREVENTABLE if the proper testing is done.

Glad everything went smoothly!!.
