you have to be offered COBRA is you were covered while you were an employee. I would ask the HR department one last time and if the answer is still the same IMMEDIATELY contact your local MS chapter and ask for their assistance. They have specialists to help with these types of problems.
There is a patient co-pay assistance program with Shared Solutions - be sure to talk to them about getting your drug covered. I don't know exactly how it works for people who do not have regular insurance but supposedly they have deeply the Rare Disease foundation to help in cases such as yours.

If they let you go because of MS the is against the law.
Cobra is a law they have to offer it to you, You should call your State Insurance department.
