DJ - In Medical Trouble
DJ is in a serious medical crisis and currently in ICU. She has been there since Tuesday and I have been waiting to know more before telling you this news.
You probably remember that she recently had her morphine pump exchanged for a different unit. Unknown to the surgeon, she has an extensive abdominal and bladder infection. The doctors think when the surgery was performed that the leads that deliver the morphine to her spine were contaminated with this infection and introduced into her central nervous system. DJ now has a raging infection, which also appears to have attacked her brain.
They are doing a lumbar puncture today to determine positively if there is an infection in her CSF and the appropriate course of treatment. They have also mentioned sepsis. Her daughter tells me they are keeping her comfortable and relatively pain free.
One incredibly sad part of this story is she was due to move home to Pennsylvania next week. Her apartment is waiting for her. The moving truck was lined up for her household goods. Most of her things are already in boxes. And she was given financial assistance from the NMSS chapter for her air transportation. She and her daughter had even shopped on Monday for winter weight clothes to wear since her wardrobe is all things for southern California. DJ considered each of these a miracle of sorts and was so excited to go home. She has planned this move simply on faith that it would all happen. On Tuesday all of this changed.
If you believe in miracles, this might be the time to wish for another one for DJ because she seems to have used quite a few lately and this could be the biggest one of all that she needs.

Father, you know what difficulty is going on in DJ's life, and you know the special
circumstances that are occurring in her life, at this very moment. Lord, we pray
that you will touch her doctors, nurses, technicians, etc. with the wisdom and
knowledge to cure her and get her through this trial of the body. Lord, we also
pray, that you will touch DJ's body, and rid it of the evil that is attacking it, that
you will hold DJ's hand, comfort her, and let her know that you are there with her.
Finally Father, we pray for DJ's daughter and her entire family, that you will be
with each one of them, holding each one in your loving caring arms, comforting
them and letting them know, it will be alright, you will take care of her and them.
In your blessed Son, Jesus' name (who makes every day brighter, even when it
rains), Amen.

When DJ was struggling with her own care after the death of her dear mama, Ruby, it was Karen who intervened on her behalf and helped to navigate the red tape and get the home attendant approved. That is how Kathy came into DJ's life.

I am praying for DJ and her family as they go through this difficult time. DJ is such a wonderful person and is such a joy to so many on here. I hate to hear that she is going through this!

We all have stories, and please don't ever feel guilty about posting your problems or think that your own concerns are petty in comparison to what others are dealing with. I know if DJ could, the first thing she would want to do is know how she could help all of you - she's a very wise and compassionate woman.

So many loving comments here, it's clear from them what kind of friend our DJ has been. I can only "Amen!" what Terry has just said above. I'll go now & post her need on our church website.
I haven't been on line. I tried to ck in last night. One thing I had planned to do was to send DJ a hug and if she hadn't been online to send Lu a pm asking abut her. Then the Internet connection went down.
DJ has brought me such joy since I joined this forum. No matter her problems she was always there for me or others if we needed her. She sent gentle hugs my way more than once.

How selfish I feel to have vented my meager problems just a while ago. The LORD really knows how to put us in our place, doesn't he? I feel so helpless for DJ and of course I'm praying for her but that doesn't seem like enought right now. My Mother-in-law passed away a few months ago from the same type of infection. She was fine one day and 4 days later she was gone. It's a devestating ordeal for her so we must all pray from our hearts that the dear LORD will see her through this. I'm also praying for her family to be strong and to let the LORD carry this huge burden for them.

DJ has been having a hard time of it during most of my time here on the forum. I can see from the responses and the few posts I remember her making that she is a genuine and well loved member of this community. My best thoughts are with and for her, her daughter, and her family (including her cyberfamily here).

the cat scans are done and show no signs of tumors but the ms has definitely progressed. the ekg and eeg are finished. The LP went ok, too. now it's wait, and wait some more for the lab results to come back. DJ is resting without pain, and that in itself is good news.
