DOES IT MATTER WHERE THE LESIONS ARE?

Hi All,

My question is...does it matter where the lesion is?  I do have a lesion in the basal ganglia area of my brain. Oh. I forgot, one more question.  Is it the norm for me to have numbness muscle spasms, tingling pain in my calf and foot, where I need a cane to walk, but my foot isn't dragging, just a little weak, also have a weak pulse in bottom of foot.  Would these symptoms be ms. Could  ms cause a weak pulse like that, or bad circulation?  Thanks!  Sandie

welcome to the forum.... all I can add is that I agree with Karen and you should ask your Dr about the weak pulse?

when do you see the Neuro or Dr again for results?

let us know how things are going and keep track of you symptoms on a timeline...just for your records and to give to any drs ..

take care

Hello.  Welcome to the MedHelp MS Forum.  I don't know off hand about the location of lesions in that part of the brain, but I found this:

"The basal ganglia refers to large clusters of nerve cells which are located within the cerebrum and upper parts of the brain stem. These structures help start and stop movement, as well as keep movements smooth and fluid.
Multiple sclerosis can cause damage to the basal ganglia, which can produce a variety of symptoms, including: tremor, involuntary movements, weakness and spasticity."

There are so many variables from one person to another with MS.  So answering your question about not having a foot drag, but use a cane.  It is normal and not uncommon.

I do not believe that MS can cause a weak pulse in the extremities, unless there is very limited movement of the leg.  Is this something you have noticed or has your doctor mentioned this to you?  Ask your doctor about this, especially if there is any discoloration or is cold to the touch.

There is a "Health Pages" section located on this page, upper right hand corner.  If you haven't yet, please browse through it.  Those pages hold a wealth of information.

Again, welcome.
