Do I need more than general blood work

Hi,
I stumbled upon this community because I started researching symtoms.

I am a 39 year old woman and have primarily been in excellent health.  Over the last year I struggled with odd issues that I would characterize as nerological.

I  have a terrible time typing, more than 1/2 of my words are dyslexic.  I strugggle to recall the right words and have to really think sometimes when I am talking to complete a thought.

My vision has had a marked change and I am suddenly struggling to read small print.

Separately I have had pain on/off in my left leg starting in the inside of my thigh in the groin area.  It can be general numbness, but sometimes is like a jolt or pop of pain.  Related to this(?) I have had balance issues.

I mentioned some of the issue at my physical 3 months ago and was told that it is just because "I am busy" or "getting older".  I had blood work done and it was all fine minus low vit D.

I really think there is something more going on but not sure where to go to get this all checked out.  Do I need more than standard blood test to rule in/out MS?

Thank you!

Hi,

Thank you all for the direction and support. I am going to proceed with an MS neurologist.  I will keep you posted.

Enjoy the holidays :)

Hi and welcome,

I don't believe we've meet as of yet. Regarding your question about blood work, yes you might need more blood work but I would not categorize it as "general  blood work". MS is a diagnosis of exclusion.

Specifically, testing is done for Lyme disease, lupus and several other things. With your symptoms I would ask for a referral to a MS  neurologist and NOT a general neurologist.

Feel free to return and ask questions. We will do out best to help you with answers but we are not doctors and we cannot diagnose you over the internet. Feel free to browse out Health Pages which are located on the top right hand side of this page ,next to the yellow icon. There is a wealth of solid information in these pages.

If you can't find an answer to a specific question you can use the "Search this Community" located on the upper right as well. You can type a specific question and see if there is an answer to your question.

Feel free to ask more questions as you seek your answers.

This is where a good Doctor comes in. No one on the internet can tell what is going on and like wise what direction to go with testing. If you feel your Primary care does not have your best interest at heart it is time to find a new one.

Trust in the Doctor Patient relationship is important. My Doctors do not always say or do things I like or agree with but I trust them. They are human and sometimes wrong but that is okay with me .

I hope you find your answers.

Blood work is done to exclude some factors, like heavy metal poisoning or syphillis.  If your blood work is fine and you're still experiencing symptoms, I would follow up with a neurologist.
