Possible peri-menopause?
I'd get checked by your GP or gyno as I think shortened cycles are a symptom. But as it could be something else, it's definitely worth having them check. I've not heard of MS itself affecting menstruation, though I could see a feasible link in the sense of stress surrounding it causing missed/unpredictable periods.
I am 43 & for the past year I have times when I am having only 7 break in between & other times it a normal cycle. My GP said this is not unusual for some women.
Women have Pre Menopause or Peri Menopause which can occur up to 15 years before menopause hits. Menopause is determined by the cessation of menstruation for at least 12 months. In peri menopause women can have irregular cycles & some people experience hot flushes & the things that come with actual menopause.
I also don't think your problem is MS related but it could be something like Polyps, fibroids, hormone changes & many other causes so I would suggest you check in with your doc. My doc ordered an ultrasound & some hormone tests but everything is as it should be for my age. I do think getting some Iron studies done would be wise in the long run as well.
It is annoying to say the least & I can empathise with you there. Oh the plight of being a woman. ;-)
Karry.
i don't think it is ms related, i am 49 but have gone through menopause, before i did i was very regular and then they started getting closer and closer and lasting longer, then they quit, most often they get further apart but mt dr said they can go both ways
I had continuous periods for two years before I stopped all together.

We're more or less same age. I am not dx'd so can't talk from that angle. I can tell you that I have occasionally had two week cycles recently. I mentioned to my doctor who scratched his head, thought it was strange and asked no more!! He did say though that menopause would more likely cause MORE time between cycles. Worth checking your iron levels too perhaps.
Thanks ladies! Mom had a total hysterectomy at 29 so I do not have anything but my grandmother and aunt to go by and they did not hit that stage until they were in their 50's.
I'm usually between 23-27 days for my cycle and I'm more curious than alarmed. Time to go to see my doc, timeto check my B12 anyway. :-)
Hi Corrie, I haven't heard of any relation to MS. For the most part I'm regular every 28 days, give or take a day or two. I'm 46. My guess is that the cause is something non MS related.
Hey Corrie,
Personally mine has never changed, just like clock work and still no sign of peri menopause and i'm turning 50 this year. I was under the impression the age of menopause, was suppose to be the same as your mother, but i'm not sure if that's just an old wives tail. Have seen your GP yet?
