Does an Electronystagmogram rule out MS

I have been to a neurologist for severe vertigo.  He did a workup and sent me for an MRI and an ENG.  My MRI was clear . My symptoms were extreme fatigue, confusion, memory loss, and vertigo.  I now have developed numbness/tinglin in my left hand.  I wanted to know is an ENG used to rule out MS or am I dealing with something else here.  He said my vertigo was caused by my migraines and has put me on a beta blocker and it has helped a little but not alot.  He also wants me to take prednisone for 9 days.  I am just confused about what may be wrong and I have been feeling so sick for so many months now.  Thanks.

The answer to your question is, "No."  An ENG will not rule MS out or in.  T-Lynn, as usual gave you great info!

A ENG OR A VNG WILL TELL AN OTOTOLOGIST(SP) IF YOUR VERTIGO IF PERIPHERAL OR CENTRAL.

PERIPHERIAL WILL BE COMING FROM THE EAR,CENTRAL WILL BE COMING FROM THE BRAIN

IT WON'T RULE MS IN OR OUT,THIS WILL HELP YOUR NEUROLOGIST.

THE ENG/VNG IS A 3 PART TEST.TAKES ABOUT 45 MINUTES.
