Doh!

So today I was at a park in picnic area for an event that I am attending this weekend and tripped on my stupid random gimp foot and almost fell on my face. Nothing hut but my pride.

I feel the same way. I feel almost "normal" too. My left foot has a delay and sometimes catches on the ground. I have put off the cane because I am too stubborn/proud/embarrassed to use it and while it may be helpful, I don't really think that I need it.  I can walk mostly normal, I can actually run (although not for more than a few minutes.) it's just every so often, a few times per month I end up catching my foot enough to trip. I did several weeks of physical therapy so it did improve quite a bit. I just need to keep up with the exercises and I am hoping that when I am better shape that will help too.

Your adventures sound so much like mine!  Four times in the last month, I've gone from a standing position, attempted to walk forward, and my L foot doesn't get the message.  Boom!  Down on the floor!  I e-mailed my neuro - he told me to start using a cane.  I haven't taken to using it full time, because I feel so *almost* normal.  Except the L foot doesn't always get it.  Sigh... I guess I'll start using it more!

For areas like that, perhaps it is time to take along a cane for the added stability?  I know I have taken to doing that if I think the pavement might reach out and grab at me.

Thanks everyone!

At least now I know that I am not alone. The park that I was at is an old part with old trees. Very uneven ground with lots of roots. Today I tripped on a tree root that had raised the pavement. Luckily this time I just tripped. I sort of stayed put for most of the day and didn't wander around too much. I didn't want to give an encore performance. :)

hahaha!  yeah, I remember the first time my neighbors asked me if I was okay after falling and skidding on my hands and knees down hill.  I said, I'm okay -- it's just my MS!  They had no idea I had MS and I was being grumpy, but that also got me no more commentary when it happened again :)

oh I need to borrow your dog or your expertise in training him!  when I had pups, and such would happen, they'd see it as a "free reign" card!

I think many of us have had the flying feet experience and the last time I had it, a passing motorcycle paused as I climbed back to my feet and I just grinned and said "oh i do this all the time, I'm fine" and he shook his head and left!  Then I did feel like finding my rock and climbing back under it!

LOL!!! Been there, done that more times than I want to recall! The most embarrassing were all the times I fell in the hall of the elementary school where I was teaching! Every time I had to fill out an accident report about the fall, I would have to check no to wet floor, no to tripping on something on the floor. There just was no check for annoying gimp foot!!!!!

Glad you weren't  hurt :)

Cheers,
Deb

Stupid gimpy feet are random by design.  They cannot be trusted for anything but to trip up their owners at inopportune moments.  Glad your face is still fine.  Stay cool and enjoy your event.

Lol. Happens to me all the time.  What's great is that it only happens when people are outside and watching!  I'm greatful for an obedient dog because his leash has flown from my hands many times walking on hills.  The retractable comes flying at him and he'll just sit then come over to check me out. What a sweetie.

I feel you pain, I've gone done face first in a sandwich shop once, not too much fun.  Glad you were hurt.
