EEG question... going for doc. soon

Had a seizure last night in front of my family, lasted from front to back about 2 hours until I was completely ok... felt pretty bad still this morning, slept this afternoon and now I feel much better. I didn't every completely lose total conciousness, but I couldn't talk at all, and had the jerking of the limbs, etc. I will describe it more later.

The neuro's office finally called back, and they want me in now for an EEG. will this show anything, as I feel a lot better now, and it was 8 something to almost 11 last night when the seizure took place?

Life is rather rough right now, remember me in your thoughts and prayers.... I'll check back in later.....

Encephalopathy would indicate a more far-reaching process than just "seizure disorder."  He is looking at the whole picture here, the seizure, the neuro symptoms, the cognitive problems.  Good for him!

I'm heading for bed... I feel very tired, even though I slept a lot today trying to get rid of that terrible feeling and that head-ache.

Yes, Momma Bear, you were so right. I only wish you could make it go away too. :)

I will have someone video it next time.

I had an EEG done 21 hours after the seizure which the nurse called a little late and the nurse was unhappy- she kept telling me to keep my eyes closed even though they were closed and she kept remashing the leads onto my head, even though they were very stuck and hadn't moved. She was a very nice lady though, don't get me wrong, she just seemed as though she didn't like the results she was seeing... i guess.

They sent me to the hospital from there for labs
CBC
CMP (Chem 12)
HgBa1C
Topamax levels

The diagnosis code on my lab sheet (remember, I'm a coder so I can un-scramble the numbers) was actually encephalopathy. I'm not sure what that means.... if anything.

They did not tell me anything at the neurologist and he actually never spoke to me.

You are definitely in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself. I'm glad to hear that the neuro is on top of it.

Seee?  Momma Bear knows what she's talking about.

Yes, an EEG will show what is called an "irritable focus" or "epilpticform discharges" even in the absence of active seizure activity.

If it ever happens again, have someone video it.

I'm glad the neuro is getting right on it.

Ouch!  Get some more rest, take it easy, and let us know when you know something.  Sounds like the gran mal seizures that Rena's experienced.

You will indeed be in my thoughts and prayers.  I'm sorry that you had to go through all that.

My experience with an EEG was not bad at all; hope your's is easy breezy.  They may try to set off a seizure, or perhaps the brain waves will still show abnormal activity from last night.

I know you have your family with you, but if you need a hand to squeeze, grab on to mine and I'll send calming thoughts and feelings your way.

be well,

Kathy
