Follow up with Neuro today

Hi Everyone,

I have my follow up appointment with the neurologist who finally did an mri - both brain and c-spine.  This was my first mri after at least 4 years of symptoms.  I actually think it has been 15 years as when I first was married I ended up on disability for almost a year with muscle spasms, tmj, extreme fatigue, blurry vision, dizzy, lack of balance, headaches...  I went from an active woman working full time plus teaching night school, doing aerobics and weights 3 x a week ... to someone who had to lay on the couch while my new hubby and friends went hiking, skiing and camping.  Boo Hoo for me!

I eventually got better and returned to ft work but never did have the energy I once did.  I continued to have episodes but just found ways to manage.  Then during my pregnancies I had less symptoms.  While my kids were babies, the fatigue and muscle spasms/pain returned but I thought it was being a new mom and having no sleep and lugging around two kids, car seats ...

Then 4 years ago, I had a repeat of my previous episode only more extreme and ended up in the ER thinking I was having a stroke.  Had full work up (CT scan, ultrasound, EKG) and saw Neuro #1 and a cardiologist who said it was atypical migraines and benign heart arrythmia.  Since then I have been having episodes on and off and new symptoms.

Two years ago legs seized up and could barely walk, had to use a cane.  That got me appt with a rheumatologist which resulted in me learning I was low on Vit D and possibly had Fibromyalgia.  Got a second opinion this year - rheumy #2 says definately not Fibromyalgia - she believes it is neurological.

So after 4 years of pain and uncertainty I found a new GP in Dec 2009(not an easy feat in Canada) and she says she thinks it's MS.  I get into a neuro in Feb and have my MRI and now I am off to see Neuro #2 to hear what he thinks and if he can help me.

I have made a time line and am bringing DH as I do not want to be dismissed again without getting some help.  I am a mixture of hopeful (I may get some answers and help) and hopeless ( that he will say migraines too and i will be back to square one).  Oh did I mention I also had to have my performance review at work this morning.

Okay that's my rant and I actually do feel better.  Thanks to all of you for the great information and support you provide. Anna

I am praying for you that this neuro (neuro #2) will actually sit down and listen/talk with you. They seem to be few and far between but keep going. Don't settle for anything but the best.
I'm glad also to see that you are bringing in your timeline. I think we all have gone to a doc and walked out wishing we have said this or that. Good for you!
And my neuro loves that I come in with a check list that I won't let her out of the room without my having at least said it. They can only cover so much at once. But, anyway, I'm rambling....
I am praying for you and that you get the answers you need.
