Hey LA

I am on a med called Alertec (Modanfil), and I do believe it is the "Canadian" version of the same. (Provigil)
I, too have high blood pressure and am medication for that as well....When getting this prescription, I asked the pharmacist about this BP issue. He gave me a printout and it said that only 3% of people reported a problem with higher BP.
I have been checking my BP every day, and it hasn't been much affected by it since March 1st....(My pulse has always been a bit wacky with or without any meds)

Hi Tammy,
Thanks.  I think I am going to cut my 200mg pill in half and start out slow.  Did you go with the full dose at first?

I take Coreg for bp and tachycardia and am also taking Provigil.  I get relief from my fatigue on just 100mg a day and have had no problem with the bp.  I have noticed some mild tachycardia recently, but I think it may be connected to the recent switch to generic Coreg.

I'm curious . . . can tachycardia be caused by MS?

Craig has high blood pressure and is on medication.  When he took a quarter of a Provigil (50 mg) his B/P stayed ok.  But when he went to 100 mg his B/P went way up to 160 /110 and he started to have some vision changes.

He is now off of the drug.  Be careful and monitor your blood pressure.

Good Luck with it,
Elaine

I'm taking Provigil and have high blood pressure.  I also take a beta blocker, Propanolol.  I think the too interact with each other.  I tried to take the full dose, but never was able to.  It must strengthen the Provigil or something, because I just don't feel right on the full dosage (I've even tried it recently after being on it for 6 months and couldn't do it).  However, on the half dose, I love it!  I'm more alert and less fatigued.

My blood pressure is about the same.  On some days, it will go up, especially when I'm in pain or have a migraine, but this is no different from before I started Provigil.

Best wishes,
Deb

Thanks everyone for your help on this.  I think I will start out with 50mg and see how that goes.

I have the 200mg tablets but I think I can use my pill splitter to get the amount reasonably close.

I do not do well with caffiene and do have issues with anxiety at times. So, I better start this out slowly.

I take Provigil for Narcolepsy. I also have POTS which is usually LOW blood pressure...and I'm seeing that you take Provigil to LOWER your blood pressure? No wonder my POTS has gotten worse. Gawd, I wish I could find a dr who knew about stuff!  I'm very frustrated

I also have had a spinal to check for MS since my Oct  fainting spell and mri found lesions on my brain. My spinal seems to have lesions outside of the spinal cord. This last hospital stay over the weekend found no change on the brain MRI. I was also told that the spinal fluid was checked wrong for MS so it's not a positive no.

Anyone else dx with POTS, MS, Narcolepsy?  Is it all related?

Oh no, Provigil does not lower blood pressure. It can really spike it.  I think you may have misread the posts because no one said it lowered b/p.

I keep a close eye on my B/P because of the Provigil's side effect of higher pressure. Wow this is an old post! Over a year.

I have been on 400 mg of provigil for about 5 or 6 years now.  I don't take it all everyday, I cut them in half... some days take both of em... depends on how draggy I am feeling.

My mom who has high blood pressure also is on provigil for narcolepsy (SPEELED HORRIBLY WRONG!) She had a heart attack back in April and provigil was one of the first drugs the heart doctor put her back on.

There was a very interesting article in the new york times about provigil a few years back that disscussed how provigil was not being abused by people who were prescribed it because it doesn't make you high or give you a buzz like alot of the other speeds that they prescribe to people who have disorders and needs for it.

When I was taking 400 mgs everyday I did get lower back pain which is one of the side effects.  I don't take my provigil after like 11 am cause if I do I might not get to go to sleep that night.  It is one prescription that I have been on that My doctor lets me play more with the dose. Good Luck!

Provigil is a stimulant but it works on the CNS(central nervous system) its not per say a stim like adderall which does affect HR and BP. Your BP should  not be affected at all.If it is your oe of the very few w that side effect!! Good Luck

Hi SJS - Welcome to the group.

The two threads to which you've posted are pretty old. They were started in 2008 and many of the posters no longer visit. I just didn't want you to think you were being ignored :-)

I'm glad Provigil is working for you. We are an MS forum, and I wondefr if one of your health issues is MS?
