Going to try gabapentin for my TN

My insurance company wouldn't approve Lyrica, and I'm kind of glad.  The gabapentin was only $18 for a month's supply, and it's also much cheaper than the Trileptal I was taking until it stopped helping.  I haven't read as many scary weight-gain things about the gabapentin, either.

The neuro-opthalmalogist says if the gabapentin doesn't help, there's nothing else she can offer, and I should see my neuro for pain management.  I go back to the neuro in a couple of weeks for my MRI/MRA/SSER results, so maybe it will have kicked in by then.

Gabapentin helps relieve my TN pain. I'm at 1200 mg per day (a relatively low dose). I've tried cutting back to 900 mg per day, but within a day or so I start getting face/ear/jaw pain, so 1200 seems to be the magic number for me, at least for now.

I hope it works for you, be sure to give it enough time like hbananas said.

I'm on gabapentin right now for nerve pain.

There isn't any real problems to worry about. It does take a little while to kick in, though---I didn't notice results until 2 months on the pills. Also, if your dosage is increased, you might feel a little dizzy the first few days as you adjust.

Otherwise, I like the results I've been given.

That sounds like the next right step. No one should have to accept high levels of pain.
