Eye Question

This is about my niece who has been undergoing testing for MS. Last April when I was out in Oregon I got to see her for the first time in over 20 years. I forget who brought it up that her pupils are not the same size and sure enough when I looked closer it was obvious that her right pupil was almost 1/2 the size of the left pupil. The only time her pupils were the same size was when she directly faced a light source.

After reading what Quix wrote about how the pupils respond to light this sound impossible. I am hoping that Quix or anyone else can give me some insight on what is going on with her pupils.

Hi Dennis

I have noticed over the last couple of months that my left pupil is quite a bit larger than the right one, like your neice's they even out if I am in bright light.

I have just put this down to being part of my MS - maybe wrongly, I will mention it do the doc next time I am there.

I don't think she has vision problems as a result. We didn't talk about it much when I saw here last April. But I think she would have mentioned it if her vision was effected. I do get problems with my eyes at times. I have found that if I keep my left eye closed it does help me see.

BTW her name is also Michelle.

dennis, do you know if she has troubles with her vision as a result?

i'm trying to figure out how i will function at work next week as focusing on the computer screen is hard...i'm thinking a patch over one eye would do it, as each eye on it's own works alright...it's the two of them together that is a problem.

just curious if your niece has encountered this and what she has thought of to manage it...

i can't count the number of times i've marvelled at the complexity of the human body over the last few months...sigh!

Sorry, Dennis.  I have not got the medical background to answer this one.  You might want to post it over on the eye care forum.....  I think medhelp has one.
