Pain with the cold weather

I know that cold weather is suppose to be better for MSers well better than the heat. The heat knocks me on my butt, the fatigue takes over and numbness and tingling get so much worse, but the cold has really shown me how bad the spasticity in my leg is. The cold weather makes it so much worse and so much more painful.

How is the cold affecting you?

Yes, the cold bothers me as well. I also noticed today when I tried to clear some snow that the strength in my arms has declined since last year even though I swim. The cold seems to affect my feet and hands more. I get bone chilled and can't warm up.

Thanks Kelly,

I put a call into my neuro but of course he didn't call back, the only time he seems to call is when I call the after hours ansering service. Hmmm maybe I will give that a try lol

Last year the cold didn't bother me at all so I was wishing the cold weather here this year and now I want it to go away too. Guessing fall and spring will be the best on my body but they play heck with my allergies man this stinks.

I need to move somewhere they have an even temperature all year round so that the temps dont go from one extreme to the other causeing me this kind of pain lol. The thought of living the rest of my life like this is very scary.

Hi Paula,

My pain is definitely worse when I'm outside in the cold. The pain will be more intense behind my left thigh. I know that it's related to my spasticity.  I think extreme temperatures will effect it.

One day after all the frigid weather started in the Greater Cincinnati area, I noticed some very big changes in the intensity of my symptoms (numbness, stiffness).  I have been wondering the same thing in regards to the weather correlation between the two.  Then again, maybe it is all just a coincidence.

The only thing that I do know for sure... it's so cold outside that I witnessed our friendly neighborhood flasher handing out Polaroids of himself.  'Nuff said.

Wiggles,

Yeah I was thinking the spasticity cause it is unusually cold for this time of year, well for Ohio anyway, we dont' normally get snow until January and we already had 3 inches and are expecting more this weekend, here in Cincinnati, not sure about the rest of Ohio. I have a feeling we are in for a long cold winter just like the long hot summer we had.

If this pain doesn't subside I will go insane. Just put a call into my neuro to see what he thinks I should do for it, not sure if I will hear back from him today but I have decided that I am homebound today and only up for bathroom runs lol it hurst so bad to move it.

Take Care,
Paula

You are right about the snow. I am right in the middle of it, and it had stopped for a few hours this AM but as I look at my windows now, it has started up again.

Funny you should mention the shoveling - I tried to do some yesterday - didn't last too long!  ANd this morning my husbands snowplow tractor stopped working.  OF COURSE!
I heard on the webinar about spasticity that a change in the barometric pressure can make it worse. HMMM

HVAC,

I have more pain to but I was thinking it was the spasticity but maybe it is the nerve pain....who knows, all I know is that it stinks.

Wiggles,

I have heard about the snow there in new york. Parts of New York got 40 inches and it was still snowing the last I heard. I hope you are staying in. I hope you feel better and don't get out there trying to shovel the snow that may make you worse too...let someone else do it lol

Well  - don't know if it's the cold or what - but this past week  I have not felt well.

It's been snowing non stop all week and I am having a hard time staying warm - lots of chills - tried to get out a few times to shovel, walk dog, etc. Feel kind of swollen all over!

I may have sinus issue that is making me feel worse though.
