I'm so glad that you read this post too!
One of the best feelings when I post a "crazy" question is having someone else find out that they are not crazy and that they are not alone.
A lot of us don't share info because we think it's crazy or not important. I am going to tell my doctor just so that she knows and I hope that you do too.
Thanks for posting. I'm glad that we both got lots of support and found out that we are not the only ones that have this.
Hugs,
Erin :)
Oh my gosh - I am so glad I just read this thread!
For the past 3 years when I scratch one area of my body I can feel it in a different location on the same side. It is a strong sensation, and it's pretty consistent.
I've never ever mentioned it to anybody because I thought I was crazy.
Dennis,
Well isn't that a delightful thing to worry about :(
I guess you are going to have to be constantly looking for signs of new cuts so that you don't need a transfusion, lol. I actually had to have one of those a couple years back but that's another story.
I don't have the cut myself and don't know how now (look I'm a poet, ha ha) but I do have tons of bruises that when people ask what happened I have no clue where they came from. My husband teases and says just tell them that I beat you but I don't dare in case they don't have a sense of humor.
Take care
Erin :)
Oh how I wish I could blame it in meds. This has been occurring before I went on most of my meds. Realy since my legs and arms started experiencing numbness. I think at the time I was on lipitor and thyroid meds only. The first time I remember it happening I was watching TV and got up to go to the bathroom. As I was walking to the bathroom I noticed red spots on my carpet so I started following them and they went everywhere in my apartment. When I bent over in the kitchen to get something to clean up the spots was when I noticed blood all over the side of my left foot. There was a 2 inch gash on the side of my foot. To this day I have no idea of how I cut my foot, but it had to have been hours earlier as I had just finished watching a movie and the spots were all over the apartment.

Dennis,
I have a slight problem like yours - the not knowing that I have scratched or cut myself but it used to be way worse years ago when I first started on the Neurontin.
I was shaving my legs and cut my leg several layers deep and didn't feel it. I saw it happen but since I didn't feel the pain it was kind of like looking at it from a detatched point of view.
I don't know what meds you are on but maybe include the possibilty of meds etc. as a cause when you see the doctor.
Good Luck
Erin :)
Thank you all for sharing and Mike in your case laughing! I don't mind if you laugh in fact I'm glad when I can make someone laugh it's something we don't do enough :)
It's good to know that I am not completely alone in this. Atleast I don't have my right leg vs. left shoulder like Val, lol (thanks Val). I guess it's one more strange happening of the wiring issues of the MS. I think that I will mention it to the neuro ( if I haven't already, ha ha)
Have a great weekend & thanks again
Hugs,
Erin :)
When I scratch one side of my leg I feel it on the other side!! My doctor said it is due to miswired nerves because of MS.
LA dx'd MS feb 2008
I sure am glad you mentioned this as it reminded me some something alse I want to bring up with my PC next week,
While I don't have the same problem as you described I do have a problem with injuries. I don't feel them at all. I can't tell you how many times I have looked down at one of my arms or legs to find them covered in blood. I have no idea of how or when I hurt them. And the bruises I find are also numerous, Just yesterday I looked down at my left arm and I had cut it somehow so many hours earlier that the blood had already dried. Probably was from a blackberry thorn I walked by about 5 hours earlier.
Dennis
Good Friday, I meant to type
Can anyone else hear the tune from "The Twilite Zone"? LOL
Sorry. I hope you know I'm laughing with you, not at you.
I would mention it to my dr if it keeps happening, especially if your dr is the type who takes you seriously and tries to help you with your symptoms.
a Friday back at you!
Mike
Theere's a phenomenon called referred pain that can account for some of this. Apparently that's why heart attacks can be felt in the neck and shoulder, etc. Nerve pathways can be the same going to different parts of the body, at least partially.
My dentist told me that pain originating in one tooth can often be felt in another, even upper vs. lower, but it has to be on the same side of the mouth. Whether this carries over to other nerve pathways I don't know. I hope someone more knowledgeable than I can explain how all this happens.
ess
something similar - i scratched my right leg ...and felt it in my left shoulder...faulty wiring?
Val
No, it's just you. lol...
I've had radiating pain from injury, especially toe stubbing and elbows, but nothing specific switching sides.
I can't give you anything technical, but I'll venture to say that "anything" is possible when signals get mixed - our fire wrong due to CNS damage all the time. Our skin burns when it's not burning, our legs won't hold us when they should, etc.
Anyone care to take a crack a medical explanation of this occurance?
