willl take you to this recorded program. I just have to listen and figure out at what point our Alex dialed in.
I have a message out to Amy, the host of this show, to get the link for the webcast. I will post it when I get it. Thanks for the notes, Mary. I love being able to read the condensed version.
Way to go, Alex. You always represent yourself, Polly and all of us with MS so well.

It was a two hour show and I listened to the WHOLE thing. Many interesting tidbits were offered about training methods, dog selection and what kinds of things service dogs can do to assist people with MS.
The first guest mentioned over and over how difficult it was to be out with her service dog without having people interrupt their routine. She said that the first year, as she and Liberty were getting their act together, she became nearly house-bound because people ignored the instructions written on Liberty's vest and continually spoke to her and wanted to pet her. She said one guy even slid between her legs to get to the dog!
She also talked about how it was initially more important the dog would bond strongly with her as partner rather than with her sons as playmates. Later, she incorporated her boys by having them share in the exercise routine. The kids threw a ball that Liberty returned to their Mom before she handed it back off to the boys.
The moderator pointed out how she and her husband had struggled at times to find ways to "incorporate" her (and her MS limitations) into their children's play activities. When she realized this was just one of the many ways a service dog helps its person she was thinking she might have to convert from cat-person to dog-person status.
There were several call-in questions. Some seemed to be from staged guests but one was an honest-to-goodness bonafide caller. She told of rescuing a deaf, hearing-impaired dalmation who it turns out, was able to become a (not so easy to distract) assistant to her MS, mobility impaired human. Thanks Alex and Polly for becoming inspiration for a few more folks!

I tried to listen on-line but instead of the stuff on service dogs all I could get was her initial show when I clicked on the link that should have taken me to the show on the dogs.

I'm wondering if any of you listened and learned something to share? I had a memorial service to attend and couldn't listen live. I believe these are recorded and I can go back and listen to it later.
I was contacted by one of the people doing this talk and she sent me the link to their website - I know you will find this an interesting site.....
