Painful knots in neck and trapezius is it spascity?

I have had these painful knots in my neck and in the trapezius area for a couple years but it just getting worse. I have tried everything to take the pain away from steroid injections, botox, PT, massage, acupuncture and muscle relaxants. Lately with all my worries about MS the stress is making the spasms worse. I don't know if this is any way related to my possible MS diagnosis. All I know is by mid morning at work it is getting harder to write, it is unfortunately mostly on right side and right handed, and getting hard to lift my arm by end of day.

I don't know what to do, I know a lot of people get stress and they always get it in their shoulders and neck. But the knots are the sizes of walnuts in some of the area and they are on both sides just worse on right. Could this be a spastic muscle? Or is it just a permanent muscle spasm. Is there anything any one can recommend to help it loosen up?

Thanks for any advice? Amers

I too have have very tight neck and trap spasms and spasticity. I get a massage every two weeks, that helps for a few days.....but then the spasm/spasticity starts again.

This is a quote from a MS website: http://www.mult-sclerosis.org/spasticity.html

"In multiple sclerosis, spasticity is usually caused by damage to the nerves (neurons) that control muscles or those that collect sensory information back from them. Reflexive spasms which are generated by the spinal cord are not inhibited by the brain, as normal, and increased muscle tone results. The lesions responsible are usually in the cerebellum or the white matter tracts that connect it to the peripheral motor (efferent) and sensory (afferent) nerves."

Thanks you guys that was a good website. I have read our health pages and they are excellent. I guess I was hoping there was some magic cure to get that darn muscle to relax and go back to how I felt over two years ago. Just was curious if it was nerve related or just the usual muscle knots many people get.

I am not sure an EMG would prove one way or another if it is MS nerve damage, and not going to do that again but may try PT again. I just thought that MS usually causes spascity in the legs so was not sure if anyone with diagnosed MS has spastic trapezius muscle and neck muscles?

Okay thanks for info... Amers
