How Long Do They Last

I've posted a few questions and I guess I'm still trying to explain my way out of the MS camp. Could anyone tell me if the symptoms of MS, (i.e balance issues, tingling in hands and feet, double vision, etc.) are permanent. What I mean is, once you get a symptom, will it always be there or will they come and go?

There are two things in MS inflammation with inflammation coming and going symptoms may come and go or get better and worse.

There is also nerve damage with that the symptoms are often permanent.

It is all about location or nerve damage and or inflammation. No two people with MS are exactly alike on symptoms. That is why it is so had to diagnose. There are also many other things which have the symptoms of MS.

This is why it takes a Neurologist awahile to sort it out.

Mind u not ever attack does a lot of damage. I keep getting the numb hands and arms but that just my symptoms relapsing. Even new symptoms that u haven't had before may not be new lesions either cuz the time my body when numb and tingly I had a lesion there that can do that to me so it wasn't a new lesion it was just a new symptom that wanted to present itself then. I wondering the same thing but my specialist told me where my lesions was I was expected to get those symptoms he just couldn't tell when if I would even get them cuz the numbness and everything is a common symptom just depends on the person and how their ms is, is how it will effect them. And only how bad the attack was can only determine how it will effect you after it's gone. Even with treatment symptoms they may go away 100% 80% 50% or not change at all. Everyone different and each attack is different

I have double vision. Tried Iv steroids for 3 days common treatment to see if it gets better or stays the same. Mine stayed the same the damage has been done. I had episodes where from my chest down was numb and tingly for a awhile but that went away every now again my hands will fill numb but I have lesisons on my brain that will give me those systems now again. If it comes back to the point i can't feel my hands at all that means more damage was done and a new MRI may be given to see the damage. Like hvac said everyone is different we may have same lesions around the same spot but the brain is a complex thing. No lesion going to be the same size or placed in the same spot to effect two people alike. My lesion may be 2mm difference so it's covering a different spot doing less systems or more then if someone else.

The severity and permanence of symptoms is unique to each of us. The further MS progresses, the more likely things are to stick around. I have several 24/7 symptoms. But having graduated to SPMS, it's to be expected.

Relapsing Remitting MS is characterized by periods of very present symptoms (Relapse) and periods when symptoms entirely or partially retreat. Only time will tell.
