This is actually how my MS started, or at least it's the first symptom I was really aware of. I had it on and off a few years ago. It was pain between the area under my ear and in the neck straight through to where my tonsil is. It hurt like crazy to swallow. At the time I didn't know what it was and neither did my family doctor...I thought it was thyroid related or a throat infection of sorts. I included it on my timeline and my MS doctor said it was glossopharyngeal neuralgia. I hope all of you who are dealing with this feel better soon. It is painful!
I've been having throat problems as well. I've been having pain if I take a deep breath or when I swallow. It's deep in my throat. Nothing like having strep or anything.
I also have pain on the outside of my neck in front. If I run my fingers on both sides of my throat it hurts. Almost where your thyroid is located.
I'm on antibiotics for an ear infection and my pcp thinks that my throat has inflammation way down my throat. Hopefully the meds will help with my throat too...very strange, because this hasn't happened to me before!

It is so comforting knowing we are not alone. The only ms symptom I have that seems to be one that many other ms'ers do not have is widespread, diffuse fasciculations. .
I've had this issue on and off since October of last year. It doesn't feel that way all the time, but off and on. Someone on here posted that she was having trouble swallowing and the therapist told her to turn her head to the right with chin up a little bit. It TOTALLY helps if I feel like I can't swallow!!
Glad to know I'm not alone in this!

I also can't believe someone just posted this!! I called my neuro about this new issue just yesterday... my luck, she's on vacation, waiting to hear from someone else in the practice today....
I actually thought I was getting like strep throat, it was not burning or sore in that manner, but had that feeling of starting to swell and was a bit weird to swallow... I could swallow, only issue was taking my supplements several at a time, could taken them 2 at a time, but not 3 or 4 like normally.
I described it to my husband as my throat feeling thick....
So guessing this might be a new MS issue huh... just when I thought I was in the clear for new symptoms!! Anyone have this type of issue related to heat? I was doing great up until May, actually was thinking I could go back to work full time was feeling so good... now its a major chore to walk up a flight of stairs....
Thanks for posting your experience... nice to know we're not alone with some of the weird stuff ;)
Hope you are feeling well!!
Hugs,
Jen
I forgot to add: it comes on fast and lasts up to a minute or a minute and a half.
Bagheesmom,
I hate to say it, but it is comforting to know you are experiencing the same thing.
My husband had to take my elderly mother to MT to catch a flight, and I had to watch my father and my 15 month old...
Long story short, I felt the sensation and I thought "Oh MY. Is my throat going to close or what?" I must have looked terrified because my father (who has Asperger's, mind you) actually picked up on my facial expression: "Are you OK? You look so scared. What is wrong?"
Oh my gosh I cant beleive this post, I have been experiencing this exact thing for the past week! I had thrush and doc gave me Mycelex lozenges I thought that was what was causing it so I stopped using them but the feeling in my throat continues. I dont have any advice just wanted to say I know exactly how you feel. Good Luck!
