sort of off topic - lab results question

Hello everyone!

I went for my routine physical last week and had blood drawn and urine tested.  THe office called Friday to tell me my vitamin D was low, as was my iron.  Take a supplement.  I just received a copy of my results, and the urinalysis shows moderate epithelial cells (non squamous type) and moderate bacteria.  Underneath, my doctor wrote "contaminated".  They did not address it further.

My question is, would you call and ask to have another urinalysis done? I would think that would be the norm.  I am really confused, since I haven't felt well in so long you would think she might want to investigate the urinalysis results and not just write them off as contaminated.  Ugh!!!!

Thanks for any input.  Have a great Monday!

Maureen

I'm not sure what it was. I urinated into the cup that the tech handed me??  I am going to call tomorrow and inquire. I don't get how she could blow it off as contaminated.

I had a celiac work up last September that was normal. I do have gerd and an endoscopy showed I have an almost ulcerated part of my esophagus. I am going for follow up in September. I'm a big mess!

My question would be why are your vitamin D and iron low.  I'd want to be tested for Celiac disease because that causes malabsorption.

Urinalysis is a test that has many "depends" attached to it.  Was it collected as a mid-stream clean catch?  If so, it should be redone.  You just can't assume it is contaminated, unless you urininated directly into the specimen container.  Moderate epi cells and moderate bacteria doesn't should like a "clean catch."
