Is this an MS-thing or ?????

I was riding on an elliptical bike this a.m.   Doing fine until I got to my "target heart rate" (105 bpm) according to the machine.   I got a sharp quick jolt down my right arm and immediately got dizzy.   Not that bad that I couldn't continue pedaling, but it scared the c*&p out of me. Whole body felt tingly.  I slowly pedaled down.  Felt ok.

Went and worked on some weight machines for about 30 minutes and decided to try the bike again.   I did some really slow pedaling, then tried the low level pedaling for 5 minutes.   Did better, but I watched my heart rate and as it got closer to the "target", I started feeling a bit off again, but not as bad, but was fine when I stopped the bike.   I was able to pick up the kids and do a quick shopping errand ok after that.

It almost felt like a panic attack.   The dizziness and my body felt like it was "panicked".   I'm almost wondering if I did have an anxiety attack and caused this myself.

I don't get it.  I do some exercise and work around my home until I sweat (wasn't today) and I'm fine.  I walk for exercise and haven't had this happen.    I am no Rx drugs, but I just started taking OTC Zyrtec.  I stopped my taper of Lexapro 2 weeks ago.  Could any of these meds have contributed?

I haven't experienced any heat intolerance as of yet.   Could this be a heat intolerance thing although I didn't feel like I was hot and I've most certainly been in other situations where my body temp was much higher?  Has it finally bit me?

I did have a stress test and EKG done back in 2005 when I had costcochondritis.   My blood pressure is fine and so am I at this point.

It was that it was an all-over body thing that has me confused.   With heat intolerance do you find your body reacting in this way?  Nothing felt "heavy", just dizzy and "tingly"/stinging.

I'm going back this p.m. and will give it another shot.....  I wanna figure out what's happening.

UGGGHHH.... I'm getting so stinkin' tired of this...  As many of you are.

Take care, Pat :-)

From my experience, heat can really wipe me out, but there are times when it doesn't affect me as much and I feel okay.  When I work out, I do get a little dizzy, and some symptoms pop up, like the tingling and buzzing sensation... and when I get off the elliptical trainer, my right leg will be weak and shaky.

So I would say that you got just a teensy bit hot, and it made some symptoms a little bit worse - but you took it easy, so that you weren't too wiped out by it.

This is my opinion but I'm no Doctor so...

I wouldn't think it was a pseudo attack (heat intolerance)(MS) because once you slowed down your pedaling you felt better. You even said that you didn't get that hot and from what I've heard about heat intolerance and felt, you have to cool down to feel better. Were you able to work out on the weight machine with no problem, just the bike? It sounds to me like it was more heart related and you were having problems with getting you heart rate up to a faster beat.

You can get a panicked "feeling" with heart related problems along with the dizziness and tingly sensation. I'd tell the doctor about this problem.

I looked up the drugs that use to take or are currently taking. It didn't list any side effects similar to what you experience under Zyrtec but Lexapro did list rare side effects that could cause heart related problems. Since you are tapering off the medication, maybe your body is having trouble adjusting to the switch. I imagine this type of medication takes awhile to get in your system and to leave your system so you may be suffering from problems from that. But this is just a guess and you should contact your doctor and tell them of this problem.

Your body core temperature should have been raised even on the weight machine. If you didn't feel bad on the weight machine, only the bike, than I would guess it wasn't heat intolerance but something else.

Please Call Doctor
