I just had my umpteenth MRI a few weeks ago and the nurse there told me that doctor's are getting more and more reluctant about contrast dye due to the possible damage to the kidneys. The dye has a metal compound in it that is very hard for the kidneys to flush from the body. She did tell me that anyone that is having an MRI done with "MS Protocol," does have the contrast dye. As with anyone else that was there with me that day to have an MRI with contrast, our kidney function was tested before any contrast dye was used. This was done through a blood test.
So I take it that you did not have an MRI with MS protocol.
Some people do experiencing the "weird" feelings that you describe just hjaving the MRI. Some of it comes the anxiety over the enclosed area that you are in, some because of the loud noise....it kinda leaves you in a state of confusion for a little while.
The symptoms you talk about, sound like what people describe after having the contrast dye. I would suspect that your blood pressure had dropped a little low and this was the reason for your symptoms and the nausea. I would mention it to your doctor.
Hope you feel better,
Heather
they did not give me contrast die..
Hi sarcasm,
I agree with Janette, it might have been the contrast die, I have heard that some people have a reaction to it.
I was lucky and it didn't effect me in any way. Thought when they first rolled me up in that machine that I was gonna jump out of my skin, but managed to calm down.
I still have to have the spine MRI and they say it takes longer, so I'm not looking forward to that at all!!!
Hope you are feeling better today.

WOW - I am so sorry that the MRI was not a good experience for you. I had 2 & they were a little noisy but I tired to tune it out. Sounded like I was inside a pinball machine. I do remember feeling a bit sick when they inserted the contrast - I wonder if that cause your problems. I hope that since it has been awhile since you wrote this that you are feeling better.
Take care.
Janette
