LDN???

I just watched an extremely interesting video on youtube called Google LDN! It was a man with PPMS who used LDN & all his symtoms went away! The claim is that it can be used for all auto-immune diseases as well as cancers & myeloma. Its certainly worth reseaching!! Has anyone ever heard of this? Its certainly worth checking out!!

I am taking LDN as an alternative to the DMDs after having a horrendous reaction to copaxone, and deciding the other DMDs were not for me.

I spent months studying LDN on the net and reading several books about it, before jumping in and convincing my PCP to  prescribe it for me. (Neuro had  no problem with it either)

What I read over and over again is that LDN is NOT a cure for MS at all and should NEVER be put forth as such. It has been studied and shown to help or halt the progression of the disease but not to cure it. No one should think its a cure! And yes, most of the studies on the  drug have been small and most of the evidence is anecdotal. But as LDN has almost no side effects and is deemed safe it seemed like a no brainer for me to try. It basically helps modulate the immune system as I understand it by increasing the brains output of endorphins. One should also not expect LDN to get rid of all their symptoms either as that is most likely not going to happen. If some or all of the MS symptoms abate, that is a nice side effect, call it a bonus, only.

Since I have only taken LDN since March 09, I have no clinical evidence to say whether it is working for me or not, but I do sleep WAY better and have been able to get off Lyrica and most of my Valium. My blood work all comes back normal. I do feel better all around. I have had no adverse side effects at all and the compounded drug is very inexpensive, $44.00 for 3 months supply.

Know that there are some drug interactions that anyone considering LDN should be very aware of.

1. LDN can be taken along with any other medication or substance, so long as it is NOT narcotic-containing. Naltrexone is a pure opioid antagonist and it will block the action of narcotics. Some examples of narcotic-containing drugs are Ultram, tramadol, morphine, Percocet, Duragesic patch and any codeine-containing medication.
2. LDN is not supposed to be taken with steroids or the DMDs for MS that are immunosuppressant like Avonex, Betaserone or Rebif. Copaxone is the exception as its not immunosuppressant.

My advice is to look closely at LDN, decide if its right for you and get the advice and support of your doctor. Just know that its not a magic cure for MS.

Cheers,

Jessica

I would love to see more studies done on LDN and not just anecdotal evidence.  When I search clinicaltrials.gov to trials on LDN, there are 16 current clinical trials listed.  Unfortunately not a single one of them relates to MS.

Lala, was this person an MS patient or a different type of disease?  Just wondering.

my best,
Lulu

Hi, I know a couple of people who are on LDN, one of which was in really bad shape.  I saw him the other day out shopping, he looked great.  A couple of years ago their was a write up about him and LDN  in our local news paper.  He is a big advocate for LDN.

low-dose naltroxone (LDN) has been discussed a number of times here.  Yes, it has been studied.  I continue to be skeptical - if it really is the cure for MS I have to think that my neuro would have his patients taking it.

The UK MS society has a whole section of people discussing LDN  and there success with it. ... these are the people who can't get approved for the DMD's thanks to the NHS' cost-sharing risk scheme. They are desperate for anything that might help their disease progression.

I know the conspiracy theorists would have us believe that LDN works, but the big pharma companies have kept it away from us because they make so much money keeping us sickly.

There are also places on the web that promote diet as a way to cure our MS as well.

If you decide to try any of these approaches, be sure to discuss it with your doctor(s).

warily yours,
Lulu

I'm currently taking LDN for my MS symptoms.  I was on Betaseron and my life became a misery.  I researched my options and figured it was worth a try if my dr would agree to it.  He did.  I've only been on it about 2 weeks now.  So far I have had less fatigue and less need to get up during the night to urinate.  Oh, and my quality of life is much improved over being on the DMD.
