Thanks for your Prayers
I have the same problem, exactly like yours. I have not had any MRI's on my back in almost 4 yrs.
I am very nervous and do not know what to expect. If you want to find out about your mri results,
go to Google and type it in and read you will find answers there.
Also dose this group have a Chat Nite?
Thanks and God Bless    Your Friend Kitt

Hi Kitt and welcome.  I'm glad your hear but sorry for why your hear.

When I was reading your original post you where complaining about
your lower back.  That's exactly where mine hurts.  I have a lesion from
the 2nd to the 6th vertebre and I don't have a clue if that causes my pain
or if it's nerve damage, or even something else.

I have been going to PT 3 times a week and with the help of braces I'm
finally able to get out of my wheelchair for a little bit every day.  One thing
that I have noticed is I can only stand for about 10 min. or so and then
my lower back (right in the middle) is hurting so bad that I get tears in my
eyes.  Just as soon as I sit down the pain is gone.  But, it's the same way
sitting,  I can only go about 10 min.  It even does it when I'm lying down.
I pretty much have to move around all the time to stay comfortable.

Once in a while I will get in a certain spot while sitting and I can stay there
for a long time.  I think it's nerve damage but I may be wrong.

My MRI's only showed that 1 long lesion in my spine but the rest of the
spine and discs where okay.  No bulging or ruptures anywhere.  So, I
would say it has to be caused by the MS.

I forgot to put that the lesion is in the neck area.  The MRI of the brain
just showed several rare small nonspecific foci.  I'm not sure what that
means but I was just diagnosed with MS a couple of months ago.

I hope everything goes well for you and I'll be praying extra hard on
wednesday..  Please let us know what happens.

I'll be praying,
Carol

It's okay, you're still in the "slapped in the face" part of getting a diagnosis like this.  My best friend is a PhD Clinical Psychologist and she says it takes about a year to come to grips with a life-altering piece of new like this.  What you're going through is so normal and very painful.

I "knew" by last December that I had to have MS, nothing else fit.  The MS doc said the words to me on March 1st.  I felt validated, almost jubilant, for a couple weeks, then I was so angry and messed up.  I was seeing a therapist and I told him that I was afraid I had skewed my history in a way that convinced the MS neurologist that I had MS, and maybe I really didn't.  He laughed at me in his gentle way and said, "You don't really believe that do you?"  When I went in for my injection training I said the same thing to the Clinical RN there.  She roared with laughter saying, "Nobody convinces Dr. XXX of ANYTHING!!!"  I Still doubt it sometimes.  Why in the world would I get two disabling conditions?  The first was plenty.  I sit and think about all the bad karma I must have built up.

I would like you to do something if you feel up to it.  Would you write up your story about all that you have been through.  I would be glad to discuss it and put it into an explanation of whether it makes sense with MS.  I am so sorry that the doctors 3 years ago could not put it all together and have made the diagnosis earlier.  Have you read any of my posts on brain atrophy?  That should have been a huge red flag for the doctors to look closer.

If you do write up you story for us, please do not use ALL CAPS.  I have trouble with my eyes tracking and the CAPS are especially difficult for me to read.  How old are you? Do you live in the US?

Different doctors use different words to describe positive and negative findings.  Your's used positive and absent.  I can't interpret them.  Did you lose sight the the left eye from "lazy eye" or amblyopia?

No, I can't tell what the interpretation means.

The pain in your back could be indirectly from MS if it was the result of abnormal muscle tone which causes poor posture and back pain.  Or you could have an MS lesion higher up that is sending pain signals from the lower back.  I think you need an MRI of the lumbar spine to see if there is a problems with the vertebrea or the nerves coming out between the vertebrea.

ONE OTHER QUESTION,
I HAD A VISUAL EVOKED POTENTIAL TEST
LEFT EYE SHOWED POSITIVE AND THE RIGHT EYE SHOWED ABSENT VISUAL EVOKED POTENTIAL. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? MAYBE YOU CAN EXPLAIN. I HAVE SEVERE PAIN ON AND OFF IN MY RIGHT EYE. I WAS ON STERIODS.
LEFT EYE I HAVE NO SIGHT IN SINCE I WAS BORN, RIGHT EYE THE ONLY ONE I HAVE SIGHT IN.   THANKS KITT

Hi, I don't think we've talked.  No, you cannot get a spinal lesion on the lumbar part of the spinal cord.  The cord ends just above the lumbar spine vertebrae - at about your waist.  But you certainly can have pain in the lumbar back either from muscle spasm, disc problems or irritated nerves.

I guess you can get a lesion anywhere along the spinal cord.  Spinal cord doesn't go all the way down to the bottom of the lumbar section - it splits and starts branching off....

Have you told your doctor?  Hope you feel better soon.

Someone with a better medical knowledge - Quix or someone else - may answer this too.
