Leaking without knowing it?

This is really embarrassing...  Yesterday at work I used the restroom and came back to my desk.  About 15 minutes later I got up for a meeting and felt wetness!  Luckily I had on a liner and it wasn't a whole lot.  The thing is, I have no idea when it happened!  I didn't sneeze or cough or anything in that time frame.

I actually always had very good muscle tone there.  After my first two deliveries, my midwife always commented that my tone was excellent.  I did my kegels faithfully through all three pregnancies.  After my third, though, my midwife said my tone was poor!  It's been slowly getting worse over the past three years, too.  I don't know if it's three pregnancies or a symptom.

At any rate, has anyone else had this leaking without knowing it?  As I think about it, I know it's happened several times, just never this much.

Thanks everyone.  I will mention this to my neuro, as I've been concerned before about the possibility of retention, with too frequent UTIs (including a kidney infection that landed me in the hospital for a few days).

all I can add is...me too...

it's def worse since my wobblylegs attack at Xmas and the neuro thinks it probably a new lesion causing the damage, sometimes I want to go but can't and other times I don't feel I need to wee but it just comes out - yuck

I only have one child and did Keagels religiously also but MS has different ideas! When the neuro asked me if I had urinary problems I told her no because I was imbarassed and my husband was in the room. When I had my LP done and hubby was out of the room I told her I was having leaking issues and had completely gone without knowing (which has now happened three times now). She said it is probably a spinal lesion and if it becomes bothersome we can do testing and try the medications.

The leaking I usually feel and for awhile I was wearing a pad, but I am on depo (birth control) and don't get a period so the pad to me is very annoying and liners just bunch up so I end up taking them off. Plus it never seems like I am leaking when I wear them, they never look or feel wet so I eventually take them off.

We went on a car trip about a month ago, so I wore a pad, when we got to the destination I went to the bathroom and it was dry so I took it off so I wasn't so uncomfortable. Sure enough after walking around for about an hour I was soaked even though I had just gone and never even knew it was happening until it was too late!

I would definitely tell your doctor as they might be able to put you on something. I will mention it to my doctor if it continues to get worse but right now I am having other issues I am bothering her about ;) Hope it all works out for you!

Hi. You really need to check this out thoroughly, and an appt. with a uro-gyn should be high on your to-do list. If you had voided only 15 minutes before this accident, then I think it's pretty clear that you hadn't really emptied in the first place.

I speak only as a patient, of course, but I've had problems with both retention and losing it. Because of Quix's great Health Pages about the process of urination, I know that this is a far more complex procedure than we'd think, with possibilities for getting it wrong all over the place. Things have to work in sync, and in the right order, or the odds of its failing us get really high.

Childbirth can certainly affect everything, and there's no way of knowing what's what without testing the whole function. So I hope you'll go. I'd suggest that when you do, you tell the doc about other problems you've been having, but let him/her make the neuro connection, if there is one. Then make sure to get a copy of the report.

Good luck to you. Meanwhile, I guess pads would be the best solution. Yuck, and all that, but it's better than being embarrassed.

I too wear a panty liner each and everyday....and sometimes I can feel a little urine coming out....but aways, the liner is completly full, including the corners and sometimes running over!

It just really *****....I had blamed it on having five children, but maybe it is the MS!

I intermittently spring a leak, though i always know it, i think you might be having urany retention, so when you go it doesnt empty completely. I have the dreaded urge of immediate need feelings, which i try to halt whilst i make my way to the bathroom. Its a bit weird lol it just as suddenly can stop and i think i've held it off because that urgent feeling has stopped, and i make it in time or I can feel the leak running down my leg, i never really know which will happen. I wonder if its the same thing, the leak without feeling the sensation of urinating, dont know what its called or why it happens but i'm sure someone will chime in. I've been thinking its gravity and when i get the feeling my bladder is already trying to empty, thought the message might be getting to me too late.

Cheers........JJ
