The MRI report - what should be included

This info is included in the Health Page, in the one entitled "MRI Protocol for the Diagnosis and Follow-up of MS."

It is a long and technical document, so I wanted to highlight a section towards the end which describes the details which should be included in the radiology report.  It states:

"The report should use common language and be descriptive including:
• Lesion number, location, size, shape, character and a qualitative assessment of brain atrophy.
• Comparison with previous studies for new, enlarging and/or enhancing lesions and atrophy.
• Interpretation and differential diagnosis."

In looking back on my numerous MRI reports, all of this data is not always included.  I finally get my Nov 2008 results from my GP on Monday, and will be checking for this.  If any of it is not included, I'm going to push the envelope a bit and request she follow up with the radiologist for what might be missing.

My reports from two different radiologists have been all over the place. One was quite detailed, although still lacking some of those elements, and one was completely missing several things from the previous report (which he amended after I pointed them out) and was quite limited in detail. Nothing like what's described above.

Warkitten, I don't know what it is, but your handle just makes me laugh. I have this vision of a tiny, martial kitten geared up for battle.

Interesting.  Like you, my MRI reports didn't include all of this infromation.  Neither report told an actual number for a lesion count and did not discuss brain atrophy at all.  When I see my neuro in two weeks I will try to remember to ask about this..........  Thanks. Lulu
