Still nervous about ms..opinions

Hi everyone
I recently went through some tests done by a great neurologist. I had mri of brain w/wo contrast, VEP, EEG, a muscle test, a nerve test and a thourough neuro exam...all were normal. He doesn't seem to think its MS but I am still worried. Do these symptoms warrant another opinion or does this point to something else?

-Tingling in hands and feet..now legs (mild)
-halos/starburst/t.v staic in both eyes and afterimages....permanent since October 2008
-Body-wide twitching that comes and goes..some days its bad, other days just a few twitches
-Vertigo..seems to happen when I turn over in bed or tilt my ear to my shoulder...lasts a few seconds
-Chills/goosebumps that happen randomly throughout my whole body...very uncomfortable
-Bouts of shortness of breath...especially when walking of trying to fall asleep
-Heart palpatations that lasted a few weeks..also mostly at night..still happens randomly
-I seem to get hot fast..I almost always have my covers kicked off when I wake up.

I got some great responses from the lyme forum about getting tested but I am still very worried about ms. I don't have any heat problems and I can still work out as hard as beofre these symptoms started. My reflexes were normal..balance normal, stenghth normal, optic nerve looked fine. My neurologist wants to see me in May..I saw him in March. All my blood work was good also.

I would appreciate any opinions/feedback from my situation. I try not to stress about these things but I am somehwat of a worry wart.

It doesn't make sense that your neurologist would just dismiss the lesions found on your brain. It seems like you are well educated on thses things so that should be helpful.

I did fine on the Romberg's sign..the only thing that he mentioned was a delayed and slow reflex of my ankle but still within normal range. He re-did the exam two months later and everything was normal. So either I have lyme or I'm going crazy...haha

Anyways, thanks for the responses..I hope you find out what is going on with you and that you find a better neurologist.

Hi there. Well, yes, I have been through the long laundry list of blood tests, and everything came back normal. Last year I did have a vitamin b12 deficiency, but once the symptoms came back again, I was re-tested and the levels were back to normal. I had one MRI in October and another this month early March. This one in March showed lesions and demyelination. Lyme test was negative, among many other things. I was put on Atenolol 25mg to stop the palpitations and high BP, it's helped a LOT! But I still have all the other symptoms of MS. I thought I had a sinus infection, but I didn't. I've had 2 different neuro. exams done. The first neuro didnt mention anything abnormal, besides my balance is off - if you stand up straight, feet together, and close your eyes, this test is called the Romberg's sign and if you sway enough and feel like you're falling down, then that's a positive sign. I also have hyperactive reflexes, but not with clonus. I'm a nursing student, so I understand most of this stuff that's going on.

HI
I have no problems swallowing and in spite of these symptoms I have been able to go about my daily activities. I've had these symptoms randomly except for my eye issues. Have you been tested for lyme disease...I think thats my next step. I've heard that heart palpatations/chest pain can be part of lyme. Both these two symptoms were the first I had. It's very odd. I'm seeing my neuro again to probably do another mri. My first one was clean except for a sinus infection. Did your neuro exam show any abnormalities by any chance?

Thanks for responding

I have VERY similar symptoms that you have mentioned here, but I have severe vertigo and balance problems, and an MRI that did not come back normal, yet my neurologist dismissed my case and said that the MRI I had done in October was too similar to the one I just had done in March, so I am not in the process of getting a 2nd opinion. Interesting that you mentioned heart palpitations and bouts of shortness of breath - I get both at night as well, especially when I'm laying down flat...it's odd!! Do you have problems trying to swallow by chance? I would suggest getting a 2nd opinion. I have only been on this site for a few days and have talked to several MS patients, and they tell me that there are too many neuros. out there who are only concerned with looking at MRIs and they seem to forget about symptoms that are truly ABNORMAL. We have a similar situation here, if you take a look at some of my own postings you will see, but I think 2nd opinions are a must, and from joining this site, that's what I've determined.

Keep in touch!
